A Moonless Night Chapter Six ____________________________________________ Celestialpaw stared at the golden-brown tomcat in awe. She felt a deep, deep sadness that had both no explanation and yet at the same moment made complete sense. She felt a firm pressure swelling her heart as she stood speechless at the sight of Jaguarpaw. A cold breeze brought a deep ocean of memories creating a suffocating obis of dark, emotional thoughts like a precious thing, much like a life, being swept away in the blink of an eye as though it was a strike of lightning. “It's you! Celestialkit!” Jaguarpaw purred, wrapping his forearm around her protectively. “Brother...” She said, unsure of what else could possibly come out of her mouth. She berried her face into his thick fur, bittersweet tears streaming from her face. “I should never have left... Jaguarpaw, I'm sorry!” She said unevenly, gasping for air as intense emotion cracked her voice. Jaguarpaw let go of the lemon-colored she-cat at looked into her dark amber eyes. “Don't worry a thing. I'll always forgive-” “Wait a second, Jaguarpaw, who is /this/?” Blazepaw asked with a firm stare, a hint of a growl in his tone. “And who's this?” Ghostpaw questioned in a friendlier tone. Celestialpaw glanced at all the cats around her, feeling curious, and guilty, with a touch of frustration. “It seems like a couple things need to be cleared up... I'm Celestialpaw, Jaguarpaw's littermate. The leader of the rouges is Jaguarpaw and I's father, Inferno. Jaguarpaw and I were both born in Sunclan but when my father left for the rouges, I wanted to go with him. I didn't like the life of a rouge and I didn't exactly agree with my father's plan to destroy the clans. So I joined Nightclan. But now that Nightclan is pretty much joining the rouges, I guess I'm back to that style of living... Anyways, Ghostpaw, what are you doing and who is this?” Celestialpaw asked, nettled by Ghostpaw's secret. “This is Blazepaw... We meet every night that we have time.” Ghostpaw mewed innocently. “Ghostpaw! Doesn't it make sense to you that this is a bad idea? We're rouges now, and with that being said, Sunclan's our enemy! I know that the rouges are bad, but please hear me out. If you become any more than friends, everything bad is going to happen. You can't see him every night.” Celestialpaw said angrily, digging her claws into the ground. Ghostpaw looked at Blazepaw, her blue eyes glazed with a moony sense of nothingness. “Blazepaw... She's right... I can't see you anymore.” Ghostpaw said softly. “But... Ghostpaw, please! I couldn't stand to be without you...” Blazepaw said to her quietly, licking Ghostpaw's ear. The gray tabby she-cat purred, and returned the act of affection. She murmured something in his ear, and Blazepaw blushed. He slowly whispered something to Ghostpaw and looked into her eyes before turning to Jaguarpaw. “Jaguarpaw, Celestialpaw... Ghostpaw and I are so close. But we understand that this isn't right. Could we at least meet once a moon, even if it's not a gathering?” Blazepaw said, looking at Celestialpaw pleadingly. Blazepaw shouldn't be allowed to meet Ghostpaw, it was highly against the warrior code in many ways. But Ghostpaw's bright green eyes looked into Celestialpaw's so gravely and innocently, it made Celestialpaw think deep into the warrior code. If Blazepaw and Ghostpaw were such good friends, why did they have to be apart? The warrior code in someways only made things-- “No. Believe me, I can see that you two are close, but this has to stop. It's against the warrior code, and Starclan's word if for the best.” Jaguarpaw said, cutting into Celestialpaw's thoughts. He was right, after all. But there was one thing that still made Celestialpaw question his decision. Paws came thundering on the forest floor, calling Jaguarpaw's name. Bluepaw abruptly came bounding out of the undergrowth, her fluffy, beautiful tail swaying behind her as she ran. Celestialpaw remembered Bluepaw as Bluekit, a cat around her same age who was her and Jaguarpaw's playmate in kit-hood. “Hi, Bluepaw!” Celestialpaw said. She quickly explained what had happened, but because Bluepaw knew who her father was, it was much easier. “Well... Jaguarpaw, we better get back to camp. And you're coming, too, Blazepaw. Don't think you can sneak away to see her ever again, though.” Bluepaw said, a hint of amusement in her soft, pretty voice. Celestialpaw smiled warmly as Bluepaw, Blazepaw, and Jaguarpaw padded away further into their territory. “Uhm, Celestialpaw..? I'm really sorry about that, by the way. Is it alright if I go back home the long way? Just so I can have some time alone to think?” Ghostpaw asked her quietly. Celestialpaw nodded, ignoring the nagging thought to tell her friend that meeting Blazepaw wasn't all bad. As Ghostpaw walked away from her sight, Celestialpaw turned around to see a large, black, long-haired tom with pale green eyes. __________________________ End of part!
