Importance of Tigers: From the world’s largest mangrove forests in the Sundarbans, to the snowy mountains in Northeast China and Russia, protecting wild tigers and their natural homes provides benefits for thousands of species and millions of people. As top predators, wild tigers play an important role in maintaining the harmony of the planet's ecosystems. By preying on herbivores, tigers help to keep the balance between the prey animals and the forest vegetation which they feed upon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.Why we need to save them: Tigers live in some of the most important but also most highly threatened habitats on the planet, where many of Asia's most exceptional species thrive. Left with just 5% of the range where they used to roam, tigers are losing their homes to deforestation and other human disturbances, forcing them into smaller homes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. International tiger day: International Tiger Day, celebrated on July 29th, is a significant occasion focused on raising awareness about the conservation of tigers, their habitats, and the importance of protecting these endangered species. The day also serves as a reminder of the significance of tigers in maintaining ecosystem and biodiversity. It encourages people to take action and supports efforts that conserve these iconic big cats and ensure their survival for future generations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.Tiger Facts: > Tigers belong to the family Felidae. > Tigers are the largest cats on Earth. > A group of tigers is called a streak or an ambush. > Tiger claws can grow up longer than a man's finger. > A fully-grown tiger can leap over 9 yards. > The Latin name for the tiger is Panthera tigris. > A tiger spends about 18 hours a day sleeping. > A tiger's saliva is an antiseptic. > Their night vision is 6 times better than of a human. > The earliest tiger fossils are 2 million years old. > Tigers have the 2nd largest brain of any carnivore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. How you can help save tigers: > Choose FSC-certified or recycled tissue and toilet paper products. > Look for products that use RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil. > Look for Rainforest Alliance-Certified coffee. > Read up on saving wild tigers. > Spread the word about the plight of wild tigers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. A note: Tigers are magnificent big cats, an embodiment of wisdom and power, and should be respected as such. Low in numbers, tigers are growing closer and closer to being extinct.
