tbh idek why I made this, I’ve just been craving korean food lately for context, I’m half-korean! anyway, let’s get into the slideshow: 1. kimchi - fermented spicy cabbage, pretty much a staple food served with most meals. in the bottom left is kimchi made with cucumbers, which isn’t fermented. some people don’t like kimchi because of its strong taste and smell, but trust me, it tastes a lot better than it sounds/looks. 2. kimbap- omg I love kimbap so much. it’s vegetables and egg wrapped up in seaweed and rice, and it’s very common in korea. there are different varieties that include meat, but the most traditional kind is vegetable based. and no it’s not sushi, that has raw fish, is prepared differently, and is japanese. 3. tteokbokki - rice cakes in a spicy broth. I believe this is commonly eaten as a kind of comfort food, and is sometimes served with cheese to cut the spice (note: cheese is not traditionally korean). I think it’s ok, not my favorite though. 4. tteok- rice cakes, they go in tteokbokki but can also be eaten straight up, which I prefer. the ones in his photo seem to be injeolmi, aka covered in semi-sweet bean powder, and they look like they’ve been made with mugwort. 5. galbi- beef short ribs, commonly eaten as korean barbecue. not much to say here, but they’re delicious. 6. bulgogi - another dish commonly found in k-bbq, thin strips of marinated beef. I love this, even more than galbi. 7. japchae - stir fried glass noodles + vegetables. also delicious. 8. jajangmyeon - noodles in black bean sauce, also really good. apparently it has chinese origins. 9. naengmyeon - I’m literally getting hungry just looking at this because I love love LOVE naengmyeon! it’s buckwheat noodles in cold broth, often served with an egg and cucumbers. if you look closely, you can see that chunks of the broth are frozen, making this perfect for a hot summer day. also, fun fact, it originates in north korea. 10. bingsu- korean shaved ice with condensed milk and ice cream, served with a variety of toppings. red bean is traditional, but you can put literally anything on this. the bingsu in this photo has mango. the shaved ice here is very light meaning it isn’t as filling as it looks, so you can eat even more of it! which is good because it’s scrumptious yep that’s it, obviously there are tons more korean foods, but these are just the ones I thought of first!
