This is the story of how they met. Masha was eight years old, and she was walking the streets of downtown with her mom. (They lived in a little town, so the downtown was small, too. They lived a magical area in the woods, where it’s said that humans can’t venture). Her mom had agreed to let Masha go to a store by herself, and Masha being eight, found this extremely exciting. She raced info a clothing shop and began looking around. She found lots of things, but her favorite was a mushroom hat. Since she was still a little kid, she walked out of the shop with hat, but she forgot to pay. The worker behind the counter yelled, “Hey!” to stop her, which scared Masha and she ran back into the store and hid behind the dresses, which hung low to the ground a covered most of her. But, her feet were sticking out, and after a while, someone moved the dresses to see who was hiding behind. A girl around Masha’s age stood there, hair flowing like water, a stream of tears coming down out of her one eye; the other was replaced with a lily. “Hi,” she said. “I’m Lila.” She extended her hand and helped Masha up. “I’m Masha,” she replied. Lila pointed to the mushroom hat on Masha’s head and said, “I can buy that for you if you want.” Masha smiled and nodded eagerly. Lila took it up to the counter, bought it, then handed it to Masha. “Here you go!” From then on, Masha and Lila were friends, and the visited that store from time to time, never forgetting to pay. |~
