Remixtree to look at apps: scratch.mit.edu/projects/877657079/remixtree/ Press 0 to turn off the music. Hello everyone, and welcome to the first session of SSC, or Scratch Songwriting Camp! This is a new camp, so I understand you'll probably have some questions. Well, don't worry because I thought of that and answered them! ;) 1) What is SSC anyway?? SSC, also called Scratch Songwriting Camp, is an annual songwriting camp that will run for 1 month. Campers and leaders set a "song goal" for themselves. This is a goal you set that involves songwriting and/or singing. It could be to write 4 songs per week, sing 1 song and share it, or to write music for 2 songs-it can be anything! SSC also includes nine cabins this session. You'll be leading one of them. Every day, there will be a new daily song prompt. The dailies will have varying point prizes that you can win for your cabin by completing them. There are also weekly song prompts that take longer and earn you more points. Those change every Sunday. Sessions will run from the 1st of the month to the 31st. Like SWC, which this camp is loosely based on, this camp is 100% online, so you can log on for 20 minutes to do the daily, or you can be on for hours at a time. The choice is yours! 2) When are the applications due? Leader apps are due by 11:59 PM EDT the 30th of the month before the running month, so if this camp were running in December, apps would be due 11:59 PM EDT November 30. You can submit them all day, but you can't submit them past the time. Late apps will not be considered. 3) Can I have a co-leader? Yes, if you want one! When you submit your application, you can add in the notes and credits that you'd like a co-leader. From the co-leaders (described below) I will choose a co-leader who wanted to lead your cabin. 4) How do co-leaders work? After the main leaders are decided, I will choose another set of applicants for the 9 cabins. If any of the main leaders want a co-leader, I will notify the co-leader applicant that they were selected as a co-leader for their cabin. If you are in the co-leader applicants but the main leader doesn't want a co-leader, you will not be notified that you are in the co-leader applicants. 5) How do I know if I've been selected? Leader applications can't be submitted after 11:59 PM EDT the 30th as described earlier. When I wake up on the 31st or whenever the next weekend is, I will begin going through the apps. I will choose one application for each cabin who I think deserves to lead. (Not that the other contestants don't deserve to lead; I anticipate that all the apps will be amazing and it may take a few days for results to be finalized.) Those 9 people will be notified on their profile that they were selected as a leader for their cabin. They will be in charge of creating their cabin studio and making (or buying from the Requests forum) a thumbnail. They will also be in charge of inviting campers. After selecting leaders, I will select 9 co-leader applicants. These are effectively "second-place" apps that were just barely edged out by the main leader apps. If any of the main leaders wants a co-leader, the co-leader applicant that applied for that cabin will be notified that they were selected as a co-leader for that cabin. They will help the main leader-perhaps by inviting campers. If a main leader does NOT want a co-leader, the co-leader applicant for that cabin will not be notified about their co-leader status unless they specify in their app that they want to be notified of this. If you haven't been notified of your status by the time I begin accepting campers (notifying them) chances are you were not selected as a leader or co-leader. 6) What cabins are there? For the inaugural session of SSC, we are running 9 cabins. The cabins are Pop, Country, Underrated, Foreign Language, Rock, Rap, Dance-Pop, Sad-Pop, and K-Pop. The name of a cabin does not determine the genre of song you can write; you are allowed to write a sad song in the Hip-Hop cabin, or a pop song in the Classical cabin, or whatever. 7) If I am not selected for SSC as a leader or co-leader, can I apply as a camper? Yup, definitely! Camper signups are out, so feel free to join! 8) I've never been a leader and/or participated in SSC before. Can I apply/will more experienced people be chosen over me? Not necessarily! If you create an app that shows how you are going to run your cabin and I like it, then you will be chosen! 9) Why do I need to include my timezone? I need your timezone so I know when you'll be online. I promise I won't use it for anything else. (Continued below because the desc got too long)
ACTUAL APP DUE DATE: Whenever, we didn't get any campers so date is now TBD. JUST SUBMIT YOUR APPS. PLEASE. (Continued from above because the description got too long) 10) Is there a discussion forum for talking with other leaders and co-leaders? There will be a discussion forum for posting writing, but no official chat forum. If you want to talk to another leader, your best bet is to ask on their profile. 11) How do I know if my app has been seen? I will be loving each application once I finish viewing it, and favoriting it while I am looking at it. So, if your project has been faved but not loved, that means I started looking at it, but got interrupted for some reason and needed to save it for later. If your project is not faved, but instead it is loved, you know I finished looking at it. Only if your project is neither loved nor faved can you conclude I have not looked at it yet. 12) Are collaborative apps allowed? No, currently I am not allowing collaborative apps. The reasoning behind this is that people might collab on their apps in order to get leader and co-leader together. I want to give everyone a fair chance to get either, so having a leader collab with another person wouldn't be fair. Also, the collab wouldn't show as much of each applicant's work. As a result, I will not be accepting collaborative applications. 13) Can I choose a co-leader before I am accepted? No, you can't. You are allowed to look at apps, but you will not have access to the co-leader applicant list. You can't choose a co-leader before you are accepted. After you are accepted, if you looked at an app and you think they would be a good co-leader, you may request them. I will notify the person.
