They soon engaged in battle. The shape was the KMS Bismarck, one of the newest battleships of the Kreigsmarine. A shell from the Bismarck penetrated the armor of the Hood, near the magazines. A massive explosion split the ship in at least four large sections. There were three survivors, out of over a thousand men. —————————————————— The Hood was a very old ship, with a not-so-great armor scheme, built in 1916 (in WW1.) It wasn’t an even fight, the Bismarck is given too much credit for this. The Hood, unlike other battlecruisers/battleships of the time, was specifically designated as a “cruiser killer”, having completely different requirements. —————————————————— The Hood and Prince of Wales were meant to intercept the KMSs Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. This engagement was the battle of the Denmark strait. If, however, the Kreigsmarine had been foolish enough to give Hood a chance, what would have happened? —————————————————— Your goal is to stop as many enemy ships as possible, at all costs. No HMS Prince of Wales to help. ——————————————————
