discussing koreaboos + stereotypes abt korea _____ "What are Koreaboos?" for the word itself, koreaboo is a term derived from the word weeaboo (people obsessed with japan & their culture), and describes non-korean people who become obsessed with south korea and south korean culture. if you either: - want to be korean - pretend to be korean - are overly obsessed with k-pop, & k-dramas, & korean culture - use korean words in sentences like unnie, oppa, annyeong(haseyo), hajimah, etc. - put "eu" after a word ex. "hearteu" to make a 'korean accent' then you're a koreaboo. they're basically someone who uses their limited knowledge of korean pop culture to generalize korean culture and favor them over others. also, adding on to this, if you see someone who is acting as a koreaboo, go confront them plss _____ "Why is being a Koreaboo bad?" koreaboos LACK genuine understanding of korean culture, and their obsession fetishizes korean people. fetishization is NOT okay. forgot to add as well, it is racist. simple enough, koreaboos fetishize s. korea and stereotype stuff about s. korea & koreans, just like - all koreans look like k-pop idols & k-drama actors/actresses - korean people are just like the people in k-dramas - korean life is just like k-dramas - if you're an attractive asian then you're 100% korean and so on which are untrue (i'm discussing these stereotypes next) _____ popular stereotypes 1. "Koreans look just like K-pop idols & K-drama actors/actresses!" Umm... no.... This stereotype brings pressure to Koreans that we get so much plastic surgery(but not only bc of this). Do you know how much? We even get GIFTED plastic surgery on our birthdays, graduations, etc. by our parents. Looks are the most valuable thing here in Korea. Plastic surgery's super common, so much that South Korea is dubbed "The plastic surgery capital of the world". That's how we look how you guys think we look... And no surprise, 90% and more of K-pop idols undergo plastic surgery to improve their visuals. It's not natural. I'm NOT saying that Koreans look ugly before their cosmetic surgeries, I'm just saying that if you think that Koreans look like that, you're wrong. (but of course, there are some Koreans who have natural beauty-) maybe that's why you say we resemble the kpop idols. I've provided some before & after plastic surgery photos of Korean celebrities, press any key to see & proceed. (NOT hating, they're very nice people) I'm not saying that plastic surgery is bad, I've undergone some procedures my self, as a South Korean. Even South Koreans themselves get this stereotype. I remember one summer, I went to a hair salon (I was in South Korea, no surgeries at the time and I was tanned) and my hairdresser interacted with me. He asked where I was from. I was confused, because Korean is my native language. I said I'm from (that place in s.k). He chuckled, and said "Haha, you're funny. Come on, with that skin tone..." because I was tanned. I was frustrated. But this is common in Korea for people to say stuff like this, so I just brushed it off. 2. "Korean life is just like K-dramas" No. Hmm... did you know that K-dramas are stories!?! woww shocking 3. "If you're a pretty Asian, you're Korean" People often stereotype this because, well, K-pop idols. But this isn't always true. This is honestly pure ignorance. I've also seen many "which asian do you think I am" videos and people immediately respond Korean to youtubers "because of you look like bts" or "you look like you're from blackpink" like bye koreans arent the only asians??? only one thing out of A LOT of things thats wrong abt this stereotype: - you're judging others with limited knowledge ... some annoying scenarios: - i've seen a japanese tter (user: _nanasi_) and one of his video abt dancing to a japanese song (GAL by Ohayo) had lots of views, and so much people in the comments said "He looks like Jungkook from BTS, are you sure he's Japanese?" like.. - A Vietnamese tter (forgot her user) was dancing to SeeTinh (vietnamese song by Hoang Thuy Linh) and so many english comments were saying "beautiful Korean girl..." and "I love korean girls" like- - the Japanese song Night Dancer by imase went viral and lots ppl were dancing to it. when the M/V was out, because of imase's visual and other people in the music video's visuals.. this was what happened; A: "Wow, I really like Japanese songs!" E replying to A: "Uhh This isn't Japanese, it's Korean, bruh, look at the singer's face" this stereotype is honestly my least favorite, it's so ignorant please be more open minded and think before judging help why does this remind me when addison rae said "you don't know if she's asian, she could be korean"- anyway- _____ But yeah, with all these stereotypes, people start fetishizing S.K. You know, at least, think logically before generalizing how Korea is! PLEASE. Feel free to share your opinion
I apologize if some of my english is bad, please correct me Please don't argue in the comments
