His devastating motions came from animalistic instinct rather than his years of combat training. The all-consuming demand to destroy rang through his head; it was his only thought. Suddenly, a bolt of light struck him head-on and cracked the heavy mask upon his face in two. Disoriented by the blow, he struggled to focus on the source of the attack. The small frame of young woman, her left arm still extended, came into his view. Her ragged white dress was as bright as the bolt that had come his way. Her lips parted and her eyes locked with his. That tone...that emotion...he knew it. Her voice cut through the abyssal roar in his ears, and in that instant everything became clear. His purpose was to burn away the old world and make way for the new. Who would this new world be for? Not for those from the darkness, not for those who had their chance and blew it. It was for those warm, smiling faces at home in the snowy country far away. It was for the little brother with dreams so innocent and pure. It was for every comrade that had ever had his back in a fight. It was for her. He turned to face the legion of dark beings he had been leading just moments before. He could turn the tide of the battle now, but it would cost him everything. He could feel the humanity in his body flaring back to life with each pounding heartbeat. This was the final gambit.
