The creature looks mostly like a horse but has a long horn coming out of its forehead. People stop to look as the animal trots by. A girl with short, brown hair announces over the “ooh”ing and “Ahh”ing of the crowd, “Its a Unicorn E.B.. A Unicorn E.B.. E.B., E.B.” Slowly the voice grew louder-and louder until- Blap! A hand slaps Ebony’s desk and jolts her awake. “UNICORN!” She shouted in surprise, nearly falling out of her chair. Her teacher, Mrs. Thorn stood in front of her desk looking angry. E.B. classmates, all sitting at their desks, were giggling and whispering to each other. She felt her cheeks go red in embarrassment. “Sleeping again were we Ms. Auburn!?” Her teacher asked angrily. “My lessons are not interesting enough for you!?” “I…Uh…that…its-” Before she could think of an answer her teacher cut her off. “This better not happen again, UNDERSTAND!?” Her teacher practically growled. “Yes sir!” E.B. quickly replied. She watched her teacher turn red as Ebony realized her mistake. “I mean ma'am! Yes ma'am!” Mrs. Thorn narrowed her eyes but started walking back to the chalkboard. “Back to our lesson.” E.B. sighed and picked at her nail. She had never been too fond of school. Even less Mrs. Thorns class. Ebony never did bad too, she usually got high grades and finished tests before anyone else. This extra time was usually used for daydreaming. Particularly daydreaming about all things magic. Now, Magic was a thing to be careful with. In E.B.’s town (Bellock) magic was despised. People had been told since the early ages of Bellock that magic was dangerous. Even just talking or thinking about magic should be despised. The leaders made it a strict rule not to. E.B. had never believed this though. Very many did though. Many that didn't believe were very much witches and wizards and they went to the Bellock tower as soon as the leaders had a reason to. Sure the leaders could enforce rules like a no talking policy but no one could stop her from thinking or dreaming about it. So she did. Every single day. Ebony caught sight of her friend Trina. Trina had short brown hair and had been the one to tell her about Unicorns. She had said they lived so far out that we wouldn't be able to see them if we stood on the top of Bellock tower. They had pointy horns and looked like horses. At least that's what Trina had said. Trina was the only other kid E.B. new that would talk to her about anything magic related. Trina could be prickly though. She usually wanted something in return. E.B. had given her a lot of strawberries each week. “You see when this happens it causes…” Mrs. Thorn ranted on. E.B. silently yawn and was about to close her eyes when….
RRRRRIIIINNNG The school bell rang. Finally! Ebony thought as she grabbed her school bag from under her desk. Students rush out the door. “We will go over this tomorrow!” Mrs. Thorn tried to shout over the raucous. As soon as E.B. got out of the building she ran to the Bellock statue. The Bellock statue was a statue of a guy named Darius Bellock. Apparently he was the founder of Bellock. The statue had a big purple gem in the front that E.B. had to study one year for history. Apparently Darius had found it on “His journey to find a new world to call home.” Basically he liked how it looked so he popped it in the base of a statue. Each day Ebony would meet her best friend at the statue after school. The statue was in the middle of the trading center so she had to cut through that to get to it. She ran faster when she saw a red-headed figure standing next to it.
