Okay, so as you can see I drew baby River, one of my velociraptor OCs and I'm quite proud of the drawing. I also decided to draw the nest and tree trunks in @moss-shadow's style. I did darker scribbles/lines for the shading and lighter scribbles/lines for the lighting, so thank you for the idea, @moss-shadow! Also, besides my entry for the raptor coloring contest I used no references whatsoever. I also think that River's cracked egg came out pretty good. Also, in case you guys didn't know River is a female, even though she doesn't have eyelashes in this picture. I decided that I'm not going to give female raptors eyelashes, because for some reason it just doesn't look right on them (I also do this when I'm drawing owls). Anyways, let's talk about the possible dinosaur book series that I may or may not be writing. So I've barely planned anything out, because I have a VERY bad habit of procrastinating way too much (also, don't ask me why I decided to make this project and not more Echo's Heartbreaking Tale entries). I'm not going to tell you all the details yet in case I decide to not make it, but I will tell you a little bit. So it will be set in the late Cretaceous, the sauropods will receive a sign from the sky foretelling the extinction, I'll do some research to make it as accurate as possible, it will be inspired by the Erin Hunter books (so I recommend you read one Erin Hunter book before reading it), and I think I've got the main protagonists picked out, but I might do a little more research on their species before I make the confirmation (the main protagonists that I'm planning to have will be a male Ankylosaurus, a female Triceratops, and a female Velociraptor, which is River). And I think I want to name the series Dinosaurs of the Earth or something like that. Anyways, here's the possible prologue: ------------------------------------Prologue-------------------------------- Two Velociraptors watched intently at their nest that held a clutch of three eggs. One of the eggs rolled this way and that. Cracks started to appear on the egg's surface as the tiny hatchling tried to break free. "This one has a fighting spirit," Murmured one of the parents, a gray-plumaged male, to his mate. The mother nodded in agreement, but didn't take her amber gaze off the rolling, crackling, egg. And as for the other two eggs, they only had a few fissures on their shells' surface; the egg trying so hard to break free was bound to be the first one to hatch. And sure enough, a big crack opened up on the eggshell, revealing a big, bright, amber eye staring up at her parents. Then the hatchling, still in her egg, made a little noise in between a growl and a chirrup. The father crouched down to get a better look at his hatching daughter. The tiny hatchling within the egg seemed to be motivated by the sight of her father, because she made even larger cracks and fissures on the eggshell, until she broke out completely. Now the two doting parents finally got a good look at their newly hatched daughter. She was uniquely colored and pretty. She had a blueish-green plumage with stripes and large, curious, amber eyes that gazed up at her parents. This time, the mother crouched down to look at her hatchling. "Look at our daughter," She said to her mate. "We shall name her River and she'll grow up to be big and strong. Perhaps one day she'll be the beta or even alpha female," The father said, and what he said was true. Young River will have big footprints to fill in, but she'll do it, and she'll grow up to be powerful, just like her father said. She'll even try to change fate itself... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you guys enjoyed the prologue! :D
