Tanie turned and a super freckled face was revealed. “Hi E.B.!” E.B. hugged Tanie and then sat on the dirt ground. “Tired?” asked Tanie crouching down next to her. Ebony laughed. “Yeah. I ran all the way here.” Tanie shook her head. “You should have walked. I wouldn't mind.” E.B. grinned. “Naw. I want to get as far away from the school as fast as I can.” “Not a good day then?” Tanie asked. “No. I daydreamed again. Mrs. Thorn was so mad at me. This is the face she made.” E.B. tried to mimic the infuriated face her teacher had made and her friend exploded in giggles. “Oh E.B., were you having a good daydream at least?” I smile. “Yup. It was about me being her and there was a creature that Trina told me about it-” Tanie interrupted me. “Wait, do you mean Trina Lenning?” I raise an eyebrow. “Last time I checked yes.” Tanie isn't smiling anymore. She clears her throat. “E.B., That girl is bad news.” “What? Why is she bad news?” Tanie lowers her voice. “She's from one of those, you know, magic families. I don't think you should hang out with her.” Of course, Ebony thought. Tanie was one of the people who hated magic. That was the one thing about being friends with Tanie. E.B. had to be careful what she said or Tanie might not talk to her because “She was scared she might be put in the tower.” If not talking about magic meant keeping her friend, she was willing to keep quiet. “Please try not to talk to her anymore, please.” Ebony sighed. “Ok, i'll try.” Tanie gave her a big hug and they both stood up. “Hey, my mom said I could go to Ms. O’Zora’s house after school as long as I get back before dinner and bring her some tomatoes. Can you?” Ebony grinned. “Mom said to stay out of the house for a bit because she is cleaning. So yes!” “Let's go!” She exclaimed and they started running in the direction of Mrs.O'Zora's house.
Ms.O’Zora was a elderly woman who lived on the very edge of town. She was very nice and loved when the two visited. Ms.O’Zora had a huge garden and a few animals, which was very unique for their town, where very few people had even enough space for a garden. The girls visited weekley, sometimes more. The girls ran through the trading center, through a few of the little neighborhoods and up a small hill. They stopped at the hill and looked down. Sitting at the bottom was a little blue house with a bunch of wooden boxes filled with plants next to it. The girls walked down the hill and saw Ms. O'Zora (wearing her gardening gloves) pulling weeds from one of the boxes. Tanie rushed over to help but E.B. stopped in front of the boxes. The place felt…different. Like there was some sort of spark or energy in the air. It felt…magical! Ebony put her bag down and walked over to where Ms. O'Zora and Tanie were pulling weeds. She grabbed a pair of purple gloves and slid them onto her hands. They felt rubbery and warm, E.B. didn't find this appealing but she didn't mind having to wear them. “Hi E.B.” Ms. O’Zora said in her warm voice as E.B. crouched down beside her. “Hi Ms. O, how are you?” E.B. replied. Ms. O’Zora smiled. “I am just fine. Thank you for asking. Will your mother also need tomatoes?” She asked. Ebony shook her head. “She doesnt want more food in the house, says ‘it's crowded enough with 5 people’.” Ms. O’Zora chuckled. E.B. hesitated before asking, “Ms. O, Is it just me or does it feel…Magical here?” Tanie gasped “E.B.!” She exclaimed. Ms. O’Zora just smiled. “It's ok Tanie, no one is around. But E.B., I guarantee there is no magic on this farm.” Then Ebony though Ms. O winked. She thought so at least. “Tanie, you can go pick a few tomatoes. Make sure to get the ripest ones.” Tanie squealed in delight and practically ran to the tomato plants, quickly forgetting what had just happened. Ms. O’Zora turned to E.B.. “Ebony darling, where did you get this…Necklace.” She pointed to E.B.’s thin silver chain necklace that had a little white stone hanging at the bottom. “Oh this, well I found it on the ground a few days ago. After that big wind storm. The stone looked nice so I picked it up and attached it to the chain. Looks good doesn't it!” Ebony answered. Ms. O’Zora was half smiling. “Mmmhmm. Yes well,” She paused for a moment, as if she was thinking her answer through. “That stone might be quite valuable, do be careful with it…” What did Ms. O’Zora mean by that? For all E.B. knew it was just a white stone she had found on the ground. Did she mean it would sell high at the trading center? Or did Ms. O’Zora mean something else…
