Anniversaries and gravestones caution: mentions of death and murder A week before the anniversary of his mother’s death, the angel of death takes a train to a division in heaven far from his own in search of the biggest idiots he can find. To fight them. Not for validation, or revenge, or anything, but instead for peace. Because the pain in his chest has now become so immense that he cannot even begin to fathom locating its source, so he has to create pain on the outside that he can see and focus on. It gives a sense of clarity, one that Azreal can’t ever seem to find anywhere other than in the deep blues and purples of the bruises he acquires. One that he never really needs to find unless it’s around this time of year. So, a week before the day his mother died 3 years ago, he goes out looking for a fight. Knowing that even he can’t win. He does it anyway because he knows it will give him that pain. The pain on the outside, that he can focus on. So that the pain on the inside does not swallow him whole. One week later, Victor wakes up with a weight on his chest, tasting death on his tongue. The weight becomes heavier as his vision clears, because he remembers that somewhere very near him there is someone who has just woken up with a weight on his chest as well. His name is Azreal, and his weight is much heavier.
