Lake of Danger: Chapter 11 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Silverstar sat on top of high rock, looking over Midnightclan. She watched as apprentices practiced fighting and kits played with each other. She sighed, thinking about how hard it is to feed a clan with so many cats. She tried to be happy though, knowing that Lakeclan isn't doing well with the population. She silently swished her tail back and forth. Suddenly her whiskers twitched as she realised someone was behind her. She turned around to a big golden tom, with fluffy fur around his neck that looked like a lion's mane. "Hello, Lionwhisker." She said in a low voice. "I saw you up here, are you going to call a meeting?" He asked. Silverstar shook her head while looking back down at her clan. Lionwhisker scanned her eyes that were moving quickly. He sighed and sat down, which caused Silverstar to flinch a little. "Why are you always so scared around me?" He asked, noticing her flinching. Silverstar turned to look at him. "Maybe because he tried poisoning your own mate once." She said. Lionwhisker huffed. Silverstar shifted her paws awkwardly. "You even forced your own kit to become a warrior apprentice and not a medicine apprentice which is what they wanted." She began, but stood silent as she knew she said too much. Lionwhisker left without saying anything else, his tail slashing furiously. Thunderpaw padded into the medicine den, his tail up high as he approached another apprentice. "Hi, Wrenpaw." He said, with a purr rumbling in his chest. Wrenpaw, who was laying down with his paw wrapped in cobwebs, lifted his head as he heard his name. He smiled as he saw Thunderpaw. "What did you do this time?" Thunderpaw teased as he looked down at Wrenpaw's injured paw. "I scratched it on a branch while trying to climb a tree" He said, a little embarrassed. "You are always trying to do the craziest things!" Thunderpaw lowered his head to lick Wrenpaw's paw but only got a mouth full of cobwebs. Wrenpaw giggled as he tried spitting it out. Suddenly a cream colored she-cat entered the den carrying a bundle of herbs in her jaws. "Hey, Daisyshine!" Wrenpaw meowed as she entered. The she-cat smiled and raised her chin as a hello before disappearing into the back of the den to sort her new herbs. Thunderpaw laid down next to Wrenpaw and licked his ear. A few seconds later Daisyshine came back. "Fox dung! I forgot to get Poppy seeds! Could you go get some for me, Thunderpaw? You can take Wrenpaw with you." She said. Thunderpaw sighed but nodded. Wrenpaw smiled and got up to follow Thunderpaw. They padded alongside each other. They were about to leave camp before they bumped into Lionwhisker. He glanced at Thunderpaw before walking away. Thunderpaw sighed. Wrenpaw tapped his nose to his cheek. "Don't worry about him." He said. Thunderpaw shyly smiled. They finally left camp. Leaves were already shriveled up from the cold, a sign that leaf-bare was coming soon. Thunderpaw opened his mouth to taste the air. He watched as a vole scattered across the fallen leaves and resisted from chasing it. Suddenly Wrenpaw brushed past him and leaped on top of the vole, "un-aliving" it in a single blow. Thunderpaw walked up to him. "Good job!" He said. Wrenpaw brightened. "Thanks! Do you want to try?" He said. Thunderpaw tilted his head. "But I'm a medicine cat apprentice." He said. Wrenpaw shrugged. "Yeah, but you want to hunt and fight right? I think you would be very good at it, I don't know why Lionwhisker made you a medicine apprentice, probably in his own frustration." He said, rolling his eyes. Thunderpaw smiled. Suddenly Wrenpaw tackled him and pinned him to the ground with one paw on Thunerpaw's chest. "So, what is the first thing you do when a warrior traps you?" He said. "Well, uh, flip them over?" He said, his voice stuttering a bit. Wrenpaw nodded. "Try it." He said. Thunderpaw used his back legs to softly kick him off. Wrenpaw landed on the ground but quickly got back up and shook his fur. "Good!" He said. Thunderpaw shifted his paws awkwardly. The two apprentices continued to practice until the sun started to set. Thunderpaw had caught a mouse and was proudly showing it to Wrenpaw. Wrenpaw licked his ear, praising him. "Wait!" Thunderpaw pulled back. "I forgot about the Poppy seeds!" He said before running toward a patch of poppy flowers. Wrenpaw giggled and helped him to pick out the poppy seeds from the flowers. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow there was a lot of dialogue in this chapter :')
