Four simple but effective breathwork techniques are demonstrated. To begin, click the green flag in the top left corner of the project. Click on the four elemental buttons. Each is associated with a different breathing therapy. To try another, restart by clicking the green flag. Air: Diaphragmatic breathing has been shown to positively affect users. Some benefits include an improved ability to sustain attention, lowered stress, and less negative mood (Ma et al). Earth: Box breathing has been shown to activate the parasympathetic nervous system even more so than other breathing practices, such as coherent breathing (Alashoor et al). Fire: Pursed-lip breathing is primarily employed to assist people with obstructed breathing, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is also used to help those with panic attacks control their breathing (Nguyen & Duong). Water: 4-7-8 breathing has been demonstrated to reduce the intensity of both acute and chronic pain (Anderson & Bliven).
