Alright, so I wanted to release chapter 17 on the 17th, but I didn't end up finishing it XD BUT I decided to do a sneak peek (the first 230 words) because this irony only happens every once in a while XD 叛 徒 CHAPTER 17 陷 The Past 入 混 亂 “The stars are so pretty tonight,” I murmured. I was standing on the balcony, my arms on the rail, taking in the view of Kendra. This would be the last time in a while I’d get to enjoy this view. Jayden, who was standing next to me, said, “Yeah, this village has the best stars.” I glanced at him. “So you’ve been to every one?” He nodded. “My job takes me everywhere.” “Which one is your favorite?” I asked softly. He thought for a minute. “I like Appoline the best. Were so few people, but they all seemed really happy, even under the Overseer’s control.” I frowned. “You came to Appoline?” “Yeah! I actually saw you once, when you were maybe eleven or twelve, hanging out with Evelyn and a kid with blonde hair. You guys were all sitting on a wall, eating apples, and laughing and having fun. You all seemed really close.” I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. Castor. Jayden had seen me with Castor, before the accident. That time when we’d been talking about the future, what we wanted to do, and then the next day . . . “Uh, Phoenix? What’s wro–” “Nothing!” I jumped. “I– uh, so you like Appoline?” I asked quickly. “Yeah, that’s my favorite too!
