Every second of every day, somewhere out there- is experiencing a positive, important, happy occasion. A birthday. A family reunion. A new pet. But at the same time, there will be someone facing an obstacle in their life. There's always someone facing a problem as well. A bad grade. A tragic loss. And when you face those problems alone, it can be crushing, suffocating even. But that's why I’m here.” “Everyone has their own battles to fight. For some people, it's bullies. For some, it’s saving endangered species. For some, it’s math class. For some, it’s stopping their other half from taking over and causing chaos. And for me, it’s making sure everyone else doesn’t get too caught up with their own problems. It’s my job to make sure that everyone works together to solve each other’s problems. I’m there to be a calming voice, an encouraging smile. That's what Peacekeepers do.” “End of Entry One.” Narrator: Alexa shut her journal and put it into a light orange backpack on her bed next to where she had been lying on her stomach, writing. She hoisted it onto her shoulder and headed out her bedroom door and towards the kitchen. Opening the freezer door, she looked into the cold depths of the appliance. Alexa: “Where did I put those toaster waffles…” Narrator: She dug around for a bit before finding what she had been looking for. Alexa: “Aha! I knew they were in here somewhere!” Narrator: She took the box over to the toaster where she began heating the quick breakfast. After a few minutes, the toaster had done its work and she pulled out the two waffles and headed out the door. It was late spring, but it was just cold enough for one to need a jacket. She ate while she walked, waving ‘hello’ to everyone she came across. Alexa: “Hi Ms. Barbra!” Ms. Barbra: “Oh, hello dear!” Narrator: The old woman waved. She lived just up the street, and every morning she would sit on her porch swing and drink a mug of warm tea, unless of course it was too cold. From what Alexa knew, she was a recently retired English teacher who loved it when kids said hello. Ms. Barbra: “Have a good day at school!” Alexa: “Thanks! Have a good day as well!” Narrator: Alexa moved on until she reached the school. There she greeted the custodian and the attendance lady. She said ‘hi’ to the counselor who was struggling to keep a group of rowdy boys in check, and told the theater teacher who happened to be passing by to ‘break a leg with the upcoming fall play.’ Everyone smiled at her. When she reached her first hour class, she took her seat across from her good friend, Leroy. Alexa: “Hey Leroy,” Narrator: She slung her backpack onto the floor and smiled at him. He looked up at her and smiled back. Leroy: “Oh, hi. You're early today.” Alexa: “Oh come on, you know I love sleeping in but not today! The birds chirping outside woke me up.” Narrator: Leroy suppressed a good natured eye-roll. Alexa could say the strangest things sometimes. Leroy: “Do you have any idea where the twins are?” Narrator: She shook her head. Alexa: “No, but their dog probably got out or something.” Leroy: “Well that's specific-” Narrator: Before he could finish, the Katts twins walked through the door just as the bell rang. They both looked out of breath as they took their seats. Carrie: (groans dramatically) “You’ll never guess what happened today.” Leroy: “Did Larson get out again?” Narrator: Larson was the twin’s golden retriever. His fur matched his family’s hair color and he had a history of being more than a little mischievous. Charlie: “How did you know?!” Leroy: “Lucky guess I suppose.” Alexa: “Hey, I guessed that first, silly!” Narrator: Before the argument could go any further, the bell rang for the start of class. The math teacher, Mrs. Erin looked up from her Macbook and sighed. Mrs. Erin: (bored sounding) “Alright class, take out your notes journal. Today we’re learning about how to find the slope of a line on a graph.”
Narrator: Everyone groaned, except Alexa. She instead smiled politely at her teacher, who offered her the slightest grin back. Math class passed smoothly enough. It was mostly note taking to the point where they didn’t have any homework, so nobody was complaining about that. After three more long classes later- it was lunchtime. The group made their way to their usual table. Carrie: “Why do they make us have lunch so early?! It’s only eleven in the morning!” Charlie: “I honestly have no idea.” Alexa: “Time constraints with scheduling I’ll bet.” Carrie: “Who cares? It’s waayyyyy to early.” Leroy: “I second that.” Narrator: The four settled down to eat in the allotted 15 minutes for their midday meal. But they soon heard footsteps behind them. Lerory let out a small groan. Chris: (Mocking) “Hey, Lerory!” Narrator: Lerory turned towards the voice to see Chris, a person he had despised since the beginning of the school year. Leroy: (Coldly but annoyed) “Hello Chris.” Chris: “I saw you screw up your scales today Mr-first-chair-viola.” Narrator: The cause of rivalry between the two was a competition to be the first chair viola player in the orchestra. Currently that was Lerory, but Chris was constantly trying to distract him and annoy him about it. Leroy: “You were being a chatterbox with those jerk friends of yours. How can you expect me to focus?” Narrator: Chris shrugged and opened his mouth to say something, but Carrie interrupted him. Carrie: “Hey, shut up! We all know he’s better than you so either get over it or work harder!” Narrator: A few people sitting nearby gasped or ‘oooed’ jokingly at the remark. Charlie covered his mouth to keep himself from laughing. Chris gazed down at Carrie, furious. Chris: “Like you would understand that, LittleMissPerfect.” Narrator: Alexa had had enough of this nonsense. Being in any musical class was like being on a sports team. You needed to work together to sound great, not argue over who was better! Alexa: “Will you all stop fighting? Please? Some of us are trying to eat. You're both great viola players.” Narrator: Chris stared at her for a minute before walking off without another word. Carrie: “Well that was impressive.” Charlie: “I’ll say.” Narrator: Alexa shrugged and returned to eating her sandwich. Lerory however was staring at his salad in silence. He looked tense, like he was a spring that could release at any given second. Carrie and Charlie didn’t seem to notice, but Alexa did. She always did. She looked directly at his eyes. Those weren’t his eyes. Lerory’s eyes were a bright forest green, not a dark purple. She immediately knew what was wrong. Before she could say anything- he spoke. Leroy: (slightly monotone) “I’m going to the bathroom.” Narrator: He carried his lunch tray toward the nearest trash can and headed towards the exit. Alexa stood up, her expression serious. Alexa: “I’ll be right back.” Narrator: She slid out of her seat and walked briskly after him. Charlie: “What’s up with that?” Narrator: Carrie shrugged in response despite her concerned expression. Carrie: “He’s just upset. Not that I can blame him.” Narrator: Unfortunately, this wasn’t entirely the case. Alexa caught up to him just outside the library. Alexa: “Hey, Lerory, wait up!” Narrator: There was a slight pause in his pace. After a moment of silence, he spoke. But it wasn’t Lerorys voice that came out. Anol: “Will you stop poking around in other people's lives? Not everyone wants your help, kid.” [CONT. ON THIS PROJECT- WE HIT THE CHARACTER LIMIT ;-;] https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/885376901/
