But this time he did things differently. He knew the shadows could not do such a feat without himself. Without his power and command. So for the first time in his entire life, he let himself go with the shadows. He became one with the shadows. He was on the front lines. His shadow essence went out of his body. He let his body go limp. His soul exited his body. Ebony barked, barked for him. So he grabbed Ebony’s soul to join him. His dog. His partner. His companion. He was on a narrow bridge between life and death. But he was alive. And he was ready to prove his worth. He spread out across the sky. Infinite. Powerful. Dark. He wondered if that was how villains felt. He wondered if he was a villain. But it didn’t matter. He was Hunter. The Shade Prince. He was not a coward. He covered out any glimmer of the sun. Humbled it. And showed the true power of the shadows.
Chapter 66: “I have blocked out the sun. Hail me!” he shouted, all his shadows echoing his words. The field thronged with cries of his name. Every member of the Shade army cheered him, their voices rising in a deafening roar. Even Rome. The sun was completely obscured by the thick blanket of shadows, and the world was plunged into darkness. The only light came from the torches that the Shade army ignited, and from the glowing eyes of their leader and his dog. Hunter was the undisputed master of the night. Master of the Shades. Master of the shadows. Finick stepped forward, launched his shadows in the air as tribute and yelled, “Shade King! I hail you!” Rome came forward next. “You are the rightful ruler. May your enemies be blasted!” The armies did not say anything but Petra, Virgo, and Kenric saluted him. Hailing him as an equal. Sulla now stepped forward. He attempted to put on a mask of confidence but the darkness still unsettled him. “Do what you want, Shade Prince, but I am the Rippler King! You cannot meddle in Rippler affairs” Petra stepped forward. “And I contest that. I am the rightful Rippler Princess and Queen.” Sulla turned to his army, but they were scared. “We surrender! We have never seen one so powerful!” they cried. Petra looked at Sulla and approached him. “I. Demand. Single. Combat.” Her voice was steel, calm, deadly. And Sulla had no choice but to accept. They circled, but Sulla was insecure. Petra lept at Sulla. And he fell. She did not have any mercy on him, beheading him immediately. She stood up. And all the Ripplers cheered. “We hail you!” the battlefield thundered as one. In the meantime, Hunter and his dog were still in the sky. But it was time to return. The sun had been humbled. It was time to return to Earth. Hunter fell from the sky, falling straight for his body. ROme ran up to his body and helped his soul back into the body, as Hunter stood up again. He nodded to Rome. “Nice job Rome, thank you.” Rome returned the nod. “You are more fitting than me.” The leaders and armies separated per realm after a few minutes. Dipping their heads together in the deepest courtesy, each returned to their realm. Pria with Hunter, hand in hand. Together again. Rome on Hunter’s other side, as his equal at Hunter’s request. Behind them Finick and Aria. And behind them the army. Back to the Shade Realm. Knowing their job was done. Peace reigned over everything again. But this time, it was more stable. THE END
