PROLOGUE As the nearby sun faded from view, he wondered where They were. It was unusual for Them to come this late. The planet had spun three times around it’s axis since he had started waiting. The hills that made a ring around him had become extremely familiar to him. There was always an owl waiting inside of the old, hollow tree, and when it became dark enough, flew out. There was plenty for it to catch, and with it’s eyes, there was a good number that it caught. Raccoons also came out of the tree, but instead of hunting, they wandered down to the town at the bottom of the hills, where meals were put into large bins, just waiting for them. Termites lived inside of the tree too, which attracted woodpeckers in the day. All together it made a pretty place for them to live. Except the humans kept destroying places like this. That’s what They were for. To fix this mess. They were called the Galactic Curators, and although some species doubted if they actually did what they said, they had paid well enough for him to gather what was necessary for them to operate here. That’s why he was a bit concerned about if they would show up until a an eighteen wheeler came rolling over the hills. One of the Curators jumped out of the front and walked up to him. They were a short species, with four legs that sort of looked like bowling pins. Their all purpose, well except for seeing, holes on their heads were large, and the amount of teeth in their mouth could give a human nightmares. Not that those teeth would be used on animals, they were completely vegetarian. Unlike most species though, they had no arms. They hadn’t need them on their planet. They were slow, which made it hard for them to fight anything, so they had found peace with each other. The only reason they could pull these kinds of things off was because of their skills with robotics. Their skin color was a dark, purple and blue mixture, except around their eyes, which was lighter, and more blue than purple.Their single eye was similar to human eyes, but with many more colors in their irises. “How’d you get over here without getting pulled over?” He shouted at them jokingly. It would of made quite a scene if the humans had saw them driving. They rolled their eyes. “What makes you think we were driving? Anyway, you got everything?” By “everything” they meant the information about this planet. He took the device they used to store information in out of his backpack. He’d got the backpack from one of the stores in the town. The humans had shouted “shoplifter”, or something like that when he did. Humans were weird like that. He handed it over, and they gave him his money. They went into the back of their truck to download the data. A little while later, about 2 hours in human terms, they came out satisfied with what they had saw. His job here was done. He walked off over the hills. In two days time, he would be gone from Earth, never to set foot, or paw, as he had, on it again.
