Chapter 11: Possibility “Scorpion?” Ash asked, shaking him awake. “Scorpion!” “Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.” Said Scorpion, grumpily opening one eye. “I carried you all night and you wake me up this earrrrly whyyyyyyyyyy.” “Stop whining.” Said Ash. “I think Mix is here.” Scorpion sat bolt upright and shook the sand off himself. “Why didn’t you wake me?” he asked. “We have to hide!” The two dragonets raced towards the gates of Possibility, then suddenly Scorpion pushed Ash into a pile of baskets. “Hey!” Ash growled softly, then noticed the crowd of dragons in the middle of the market square. “Shh! Hide!” Scorpion whispered very loudly, and Ash rolled her eyes and dived behind a stall. Scorpion wiggled himself into a pile of sand, and they both craned their necks to hear what was being said. “Dragons and Dragonets of Possibility!” Mix’s cold but threatening voice echoed out over the dragonets’ ears. “I am Queen Mix, the hybrid queen! I have a wonderful idea, where all the tribes of Phyrria live united!” “LIAR.” Scorpion hissed. Ash knocked him on the head with her tail to keep him quiet. “You there!” Mix pointed a talon towards a SeaWing/SkyWing hybrid. “Did your tribes accept you? No? That’s because you’re a hybrid, and no queen wants hybrids in her kingdom.” She said. “Did you plead? For the sakes of your dragonets? Yes? Did she still say no? Yes? Of course she did! But I, Queen Mix, will conquer all the queens of Phyrria and unite the hybrids with the normal dragons! Allow you to live free and in peace in your normal habitats! Would you like that?” “YES!” chorused the dragons. “All hybrids, if you wish to join the Talons of Colour,” said Mix, “Please follow me to take over Possibility! For a better Phyrria, a HYBRID RULED PHYRRIA!” all the dragons cheered loudly. “But…” said Mix, “If you don’t choose to join me…” she twined her tail in her talons and smiled wickedly. “Then I am afraid I will have to… decide some TERRIBLE fate to befall you.” This time, the dragons were quiet, as they looked anxiously at each other. Ash clenched her talons together tightly. HOW DARE SHE THREATEN THESE POOR DRAGONS? Mix smiled knowingly and walked off, leading the dragons to a big hut, where she would lay out battle plans. Suddenly, a big SandWing and a SeaWing, and three little hybrids walked past. “Mummy, there’s a dragon hidden in the sand.” Said one of the little hybrids. “We know.” Said the SeaWing. “You? Come out.” Scorpion slowly emerged from his hiding spot. Ash stayed hidden just in case there was trouble. “Prince Scorpion?” said the SandWing. “Yeeeeesss?” answered Scorpion, unsure if the SandWing was friend or foe. “Boy am I glad to see you!” said the SandWing. “Queen Thorn has been going mad looking for you. I’m going to have to tell her…” “No don’t!” said Scorpion hurriedly. Ash, deciding they were friends, emerged from her hiding spot. The SandWing looked first from Ash, to Scorpion, then back again in surprise. “Does Thorn know about her?” he asked, raising one eyebrow. “And that you two are together, alone?” “What?” said Ash, and Scorpion recoiled. “No! No! Not like that at all! She’s my best friend. That’s all!” The SeaWing and SandWing exchanged looks and then smiled at Scorpion. “Sorry, Prince Scorpion.” Said the SeaWing. “We can only assume…” “Don’t assume.” Said Scorpion. “Please, you can’t tell my Mother I’m here.” “Why not?” said the SeaWing, “She’s worried.” “Because…” Scorpion hesitated. “There’s a prophecy. And I, I mean we, have to save Mother from Queen Mix.” The dragons glanced at each other. “Okay. We won’t tell Queen Thorn you’re here.” “Thankyou.” Said Scorpion. “When this is all over… I’ll repay you for keeping the secret. What are your names?” “Desert and Beach.” Said the SeaWing. “And our dragonets are Iguana, Starshell, and Lizard.” Scorpion and Ash thanked them, then raced out of Possibility and away to the SeaWings.
