~Chapter Three~ Sad News Madeline was sitting on one the couches in the library where she was reading her favorite History of Magic book. “Hi Maddie.” Sarah walked over and sat on the couch beside her “Oh, hey!” Madeline said as she closed the book. “What’s up?” "Nothing much, I finished all my homework so I'm wondering what to do now." "Well, we could go find Ginny and see what she's up to." "Yeah, we could do that." "Sarah, are you ok? You seem very tired." Wondered Madeline looking concerned. "Yeah, I'm fine. I guess I haven't had very good sleep since I arrived at Hogwarts." "Why don't you take a rest, it will make you feel so much better." "Yeah, I probably should." And Sarah got up from the couch and walked towards the Gryffindor common room. Madeline opened her book again and continued reading when her cousin Ron walked up to her carrying a sealed letter. "Hey! Sorry to interrupt your reading but a letter just arrived and it is addressed to you." "Hi! And thanks!" She opened the seal and held up the parchment to read. As she read, a worried look appeared on her face. When she was done reading, she just sat there staring off in the distance. "What's wrong?" Ron asked. "It's Carrie, my sister, when I left to come here she had a minor cold. But it got worse, she's very sick." During supper Madeline was silent and was barely eating. "C'mon Maddie, you got to eat something." Ginny was saying, "It won't help to have an empty stomach." "I'm not hungry." Muttered Maddie. "I know that you are very sad about Carrie, and I am too, but you really got to eat." "Oh, ok." She reached for some orange slices. "That's more like it." Ginny smiled. "Mmm, I haven't had an orange slice in forever." Madeline smiled. After dinner, a few of the Gryffindor girls, including Madeline and Ginny, decided to study together. They went to the Gryffindor common room and gathered by the roaring fire. That night Madeline made some new friends and forgot about her sadness over Carrie. When the girls went up to bed Madeline remembered Carrie. 'Oh, I do hope she is ok.' She thought. And then she fell asleep.
