She checked the number, frowning when she saw it was her mom. Jake eyed her phone before looking up at her. "Do you need to take that, or are you avoiding a certain somebody?" Sophia deliberated for a few seconds. Then she said, "This is a burner phone, but I'm not taking any chances." She muted her phone and put it back in her pocket. "A burner phone? Geez, and I thought that I was paranoid," Jake remarked. Sophia just shrugged. "I have my own reasons." They both stopped in front of a decently-sized house, which seemed to have two floors. Jake led her in, reaching down to grab a fake rock and taking a key from it. Sophia raised her eyebrows. "Really? A fake rock?" she asked dubiously, a little smirk on her face. He grinned. "Nobody'll expect it, I tell you," he promised, unlocking the door and letting her in. "Ladies first." Sophia stepped inside, her eyes widening when she saw all the furniture and decorations. "Whoa. Jake, you have a really nice house." "Eh, it's nothing." "Hey, none of that annoying modesty," Sophia told him, eyeing his house. "This is reall cool. And clean. My house could never." Jake laughed. "How? You don't have any siblings, do you?" Sophia rolled her eyes. "I don't want to intrude, but I really don't have any other options," Sophia said apologetically. "Really, Soph, it's okay. I promise. My parents will be on vacation for another couple weeks, so you can stay as long as you need to," Jake insisted. "Well...thanks." "No problem." We both stood there awkwardly for a few moments before Jake jumped a little. "Let me show you the guest room." "Okay," Sophia said, following after him. She headed up the stairs, going down the hall until they reached the last room to the left. "Just in here, milady," Jake said teasingly, pulling the door open and revealing a somewhat-large room filled with neutral colors. Sophia's eyes widened. "Wow, Jake! This is bigger than my room at home!" she gasped. He smiled. "Cool. I'll let you get settled in, and for dinner...well, sorry but I'm no master chef." "Don't worry! I can cook, if that's fine with you," Sophia assured him. "It is," Jake said. "See you later, Soph." And then he walked away, leaving her be. ˜”*°•.˜”*°• End of Chapter •°*”˜.•°*”˜
