Moon (Chapter one)

Instructions

I stood at the edge of the forest. I watched the silky brown horse who stood there. He was at the top of the cliff. I could just, push him. He would fall. I would have food. My pack would have food. But the herd, would be over without their leader. We needed the horses. But, food... I took a step toward him. A grey horse walked out of the woods a few leaps away. I shrank back into the woods. Hiding in the shadows. "Brownie? What are you doing out here?" The grey horse asked. Brownie turned. "Winter! I was looking out for the herd, you should get back to the herd, the wolves-Wait, are you okay?" He abruptly changed the subject and looked at her belly. Hmm... a baby, that could be good to know, a youngling, but if we took it, we would have food for our younglings. I could just pounce, push her off, have a mother, and a baby for food. Brownie would try to stop me though, and a kick from a horse was nearly deadly. I walked closer to Winter. The two horses turned to the woods. They walked forward. Right at me. I stepped out of the woods. Brownie and Winter froze. Winter backed up while Brownie stood his ground. "Hello horses," I said. "Don't you try anything Moon," He said. "Oh wow you know my name, wouldn't it be a shame Brownie, if your mate, fell and was eaten by wolves? Anything special about her right now?" I asked I saw him look back at Winter. His guard was down. Just for a second. I leapt. I flew toward Winter. They had no time to react. I ran into her and she went toppling over the cliff. "WINTER!!!!" Brownie screamed. Brownie and I stood next to each other looking down. He turned to me. I looked up at him. "Heh heh heh," I laughed nervously. I leapt off the cliff. I was a wolf. We had nine lives right? Wait no, that's cats. Oops... I sailed downward. I landed in a small pond. SPLASH!! I looked around and tried to figure out how I was going to get back up to my pack. I saw Winter. She was alive. "You tried to kill me!" She said stepping towards me. I shrank away. "I wasn't! I was trying to...to get you away from Brownie! I knew there was a pool down here, he wanted you for the baby!" She glared at me. "You weren't being a good girl. You were hunting!" She said stepping closer. "Maybe I was! We're starving! We have younglings now! They're not-not doing well..." I looked away. Winter stopped. "What do you mean?" She asked suspiciously. "Th-They're sick, and hungry, we need food for them. They'll die!" I said shaking a little thinking of Red. "Oh...I don't know what I would do if I lost..." Winter trailed off. "I'm sorry, if you help me get back up there I can help you find food for your younglings. I nodded. "Deal." I said and we started looking for a way up the cliffside.
