a few things to note before you read! - this mentions ess ay, transphobia, and abyouse - this is mostly copy and paste from what i wrote on my profile but more organized - this is my first kinda controversial project, so i may not be so well organized, i apologize - the project itself has some music to listen to while you read :) - if there are things in this you'd like to debate or comment on, feel free, but please be civil. - i made this to express my opinion, i don't want to ruin the gaehive at all because of this post. i want it to understand its issues a little more. - let's begin! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- what were trigger warnings originally? they were made for people who legitimately have gone through something serious (ess ay, abyouse, etc) but it seems like people on the gaehive and similar safe spaces lost the real meaning behind them, and now they use it when someone mentioned something they could link to a bad time in their past. i have been in the gaehive since the summer of 2020, and nothing has changed since then. there used to be (maybe still around?) a alt studio to list triggers where some people asked to include names of people they had a bad experience with, and another instance where the studio fell apart because people were not putting trigger warnings on the fitness gram pacer test meme, which is imo ridiculous when you compare it to the triggers i mentioned previously. i have had a very bad past with an ex-friend of mine but i don't and never have been triggered by hearing her name, and i absolutely hated the pacer test, it was terrible, couldn't breathe, but i didn't stop people from messing around with the memes because of that. and this dsmp and caps stuff is probably what's driven me to write so much about this. i don't want to assume what your past with the dsmp is but if it was any worse than ess ay then i would understand. to simplify, it's just youtubers roleplaying in minecraft. i'd also like to point out that if it had something to DO with what they said, as in they said something that can trigger people in a valid way, then ask for a tw on what THEY SAID, not the dsmp itself. here's an example: if your friend micheal cyberbullied you and said transphobic things online that triggered you, the problem here is not that his name is micheal, its that he said transphobic things. and maybe this happened on your iphone 7, you cant put a trigger warning on an iphone 7 (i admit that's a stretch but you see the point i'm making) i think that trigger warnings are very useful and valid WHEN USED CORRECTLY, but if you were to be triggered by someone mentioning violence in any context ("this game is making me so mad i wanna punch the wall") then that's YOU, YOU need to do something about that. it's better to recover than ask for tws on the smallest things. and for the caps thing: its stupid because from what i've heard, caps can 'sound' like yelling, and yelling is a no no. now LOOK, i get the thing where you get upset when someone raises their voice at you IN AN ANGRY WAY because of your past, totally cool. but in an ANGRY tone. caps can be used for angry yelling, but that's never the case when people ask for tws on the gaehive. when i see someone put a tw on caps or be asked to put a tw, 1/100 times its angry caps. otherwise its stuff like "I GOT MY MIKU POSTER TODAY YYEAAAH" or "WE HAD A POP QUIZ AND I DIDNT STUDY IM DECEASED HELP' or even in smaller instances where only a few words are capitalized: "i was watching matpat and all of a sudden its THREE AM???" now the problem with being triggered from these is because the yelling excuse doesn't make sense since these aren't in an angry way at ALL. its a classic case of taking something somebody said and twisting it into something you can be triggered by. and in a very polite way, they're also just letters on your screen??? i seriously don't see why it would be so bad when people are talking about something innocent they're happy about but they ended up using capital letters to emphasize their happiness which upsets you? i think that's all i have to say, i hope this made enough sense. i also want to say that i don't support what the gwdfiers were doing at all, i am just saying that they have a good point. trigger warnings on the gaehive have gotten way out of hand. i don't intend to post this or advertise this onto gaehive at all because i know this will probably set everyone off but if anyone sees this and finds it all good then i may do something with it. tbh this was just something i wanted to rant on, ive always thought the gaehive trigger warning stuff was crazy.. thank you for reading!
