Chapter Two Fennec followed the Ravenclaws into Ravenclaw tower, where the door’s password was… a riddle? “What can travel the world without moving from it’s corner?” was the question. “A postage stamp,” answered a platinum blonde girl with a necklace of Butterbeer corks around her neck. The door swung open and they all walked into Ravenclaw tower. Their Head of House, Professor Flitwick, was only about two feet tall and sounded very squeaky. “First year boys this way!” he called, and Fennec and two other boys broke from the crowd and followed him. One was tall with black hair and blue eyes, another brown-haired and brown-eyed. “I’m Fennec Smith,” said Fenn to the boys as they walked up the stairs. “Jensen Cole.” said the blue eyed one. “Luke Cole.” Said the other. “Nice to meet you,” said Fennec politely. Their room had three four-poster beds, and the boys took one either side of Fennec, leaving him with the one in the middle. “Say,” he said as a conversation starter, “Do you know who the platinum-blonde girl with the shiny starry pale green eyes girl that went into Slytherin is?” The Cole brothers glanced at each other then back at Fennec. “No.” they answered in one breath, then turned back to their packing. Fennec shrugged. “I’m going out,” he said. “Coming?” The boys shook their heads, and miffed, Fennec swept out of their room and went down to the common room. It was mega confusion, students everywhere, but the weirdest thing to Fennec was the girl who had answered the riddle with the butterbeer cork necklace was standing and swaying gently in the corner, turning a circle and muttering to herself. “Oh, hello,” she said as Fennec approached her. “I’m just scaring off the Wrackspurts.” Fennec stared. “What are Wrackspurts?” he asked. The girl evidently didn’t hear him, for she said, “I’m Luna.” “Fennec Smith.” Said Fennec, watching her hands twirling. It was almost bewitching. “What’s your last name?” “Oh, Lovegood.” Said Luna airily, “my father, Xenophilius Lovegood, is the editor of the Quibbler.” Fennec stifled a laugh. //Lovegood? And her father edits the Quibbler?// His parents, as a rule, hated the Quibbler. Well. His mother only read Witch Weekly and the Daily Prophet, while his father who point-blank refused to read anything that connected him with the “wizarding world” only read Muggle newspapers. Suddenly, an owl screeched in through an open window, and promptly landed on Luna’s head. She didn’t even flinch or stop turning around slowly, simply extracted the letters from the owl’s leg and kept turning. Fennec opened the letters. Dear Fennec, Hope you’re settling in well at Hogwarts. Dumbledore sent us an owl saying you had been sorted into Ravenclaw. Great job, my son! You’re with your cousin, Clara Crawford. Carter apparently is in Slytherin. Imagine! A Slytherin in the family! Olivia wants to put in a note. Love, Mother With love from Eliza, Dylan and your father. Olivia’s note was in very messy handwriting with terrible spelling. Deer Fenn Wish u cum home sune. 256 days untill u cum home.
