I'm actually seething right now. There have been a few things that the Ontario government has done that have made me mad, but they're all coming into play now. Let's start with the most dangerous one: 1. Ontario destroys green space to build more crazy-expensive housing. There's been back and forth for a while about when the Greenbelt (aka protected green space) would turn into houses. Now, fifteen sites on Greenbelt land are going to be turned into residential areas, for a grand total of 50,000 (!!) houses. Yes, Ontario has a crazy housing crisis. No, we don't have to destroy the Greenbelt. According to ctvnews.ca, two million homes could be built on non-Greenbelt land. TWO MILLION!! And are these Greenbelt homes going to be affordable? Of course not. How else would the rich developers make their money? So while rent and home prices are soaring, Ontario is going to destroy some of the Greenbelt to build unneeded housing. Everyone take some time to thank the conservatives. (/sarc) 2. Stephen Lecce ruins people's lives. Yeah, we're not done. Number two on the list has not yet happened, but Stephen Lecce, minister of education, wants to out kids to their parents if they change their name or pronouns at school. For some kids, that could mean they get kicked out of their house. They could be abvsed. The current policy in many school boards is to leave parents out of it, aka the right thing to do. I was uncomfortable enough when my mom made me come out to my dad, and I already knew he was supportive. Stephen Lecce wants to violate trans kids' privacies. The scary thing is, laws like these have already passed in both Saskatchewan and New Brunswick, which means that Lecce isn't the only one who feels that way. Also, the federal conservative leader agrees with him, meaning that if we get a tory government in the next election, laws like these could be passed throughout Canada. I don't know what to do about any of this. People always tell you that you can change things, even as a kid, but that's obviously not true. Kids are trying to change things, which is probably a good sign to the governments of the world that things are crap. But no one listens. No one ever listens. I don't mean to make anyone feel more worried than they already are, but this has to be said. If we can keep the world going until we're old enough to take power, maybe things will turn out alright.
