⬫◊ BONUS CHAPTER: Halloween, 1981 ◊⬫ It was a gray and rainy day, one of those in which not even the most reckless animals dared to come out of their hiding places. The kind in which the wind whistled between the buildings and trees, scaring any intrepid person who thought of opening a window and looking out of it. The kind where children scared their little siblings with stories of witches, ghosts, and creatures of the night while gorging themselves on sugar under the weak light of a flashlight. A perfect Halloween… at least for muggles. Far from the dark and creepy costumes and decorations that populated the usually busy streets of the city, a very unusual family took refuge in their house, away from any celebration. Of course, saying house was practically an insult to the immense black and white mansion that could easily pass for an enchanted castle... if it couldn't be called that. Because its owners were, of course, two of the most powerful wizards who walked the face of the earth at that time. However, inside, everything seemed completely normal. A large black dog was making a little girl just over a year old laugh. He played with her, he put her on her back like a horse, he lay face down on her so she could tickle him... The soft sound of an adult laugh made the dog straighten up slightly, still with the little girl on his belly. A young woman with long curly hair looked towards them leaning against the door frame, a smile on her lips. “Pads…” she said, amused. Then, the dog rolled to leave the girl gently on the ground... and transformed into a tall man of about twenty-one years old, with messy black hair, and the same silver eyes as the girl, who soon got up and walked clumsily to him. “Have you been there long?” he asked smirking as he picked up his daughter in his arms. She raised an eyebrow playfully and walked over to them. “Enough to see that you have the same desire to play as Aurora, or more” she said with a smile. Then, she adopted a more serious expression. “Why don't you stay, Sirius?” He sighed “I'm just going to check that Peter is okay, it won't be long. "Besides," he winked "I'm sure this angel will enjoy some time alone with her mom, right, little star?" He said. Aurora smiled and waved her small hands at the woman in response. “Be careful, okay?” she said, looking at him worried. “Today is not a good day to hide from Death Eaters.” “We have done more difficult things. Both of us" he said smiling. He kissed the baby on her forehead and gently set her down so he could take her wife from her hands. “Lucía, I promise you that I will be back as fast as I can” he smiled and headed to the door of the house. “I love you… both of you,” he said before closing the door. But he never came back. Instead of Sirius, it was Dumbledore who appeared on the doorstep the following night, as the Moon rose high in the sky. “Lucía, I have to tell you something important. “You better sit down.” After that, everything happened very quickly: the argument with Dumbledore, her attempt to come out in defense of her husband, the hasty escape from the house where they had lived... A few weeks later, the mansion was completely empty. Nothing remained of the family that had lived there. Gone were the toys, belongings, and photos on the walls. Nothing. Just the memory of the happy home that one day had been. That same memory that Lucía clung to every day in front of the window, observing the immense fields of olive trees and vines of the distant lands of Spain, the country of art and flamenco dance. Her homeland. But it would never be the same after everything that happened. Because she could never forget, not even when Aurora stopped asking about “Daddy?”, that her husband, the best person she had ever known, would spend the rest of his life… in a pr¡son cell. Azkaban.
