Lake of Danger: Chapter 14 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lilypaw laid in her moss bed, watching Jaypaw twitch in his sleep. She yawned, tired yet unable to fall asleep. She looked at Glisterpaw who was curled up with her tail wrapped around herself. Lilypaw sighed and rested her chin on her paw and closed her eyes, hoping to drift off to sleep. After a few minutes she opened her eyes as she still hadn't fallen asleep. She quickly lifted her head as she noticed movement outside the den. It looked like another cat so she got and followed them. She slowly and quietly crouched and took each step carefully, trying not to get caught. She couldn't tell who the cat was and smelled the air to see if she could recognize their scent. It definitely was a Lakeclan cat. /Who is up this late?'/ she thought to herself. Lilypaw flinched as a branch snapped underneath her. The cat she was following looked behind them at Lilypaw, their eyes glaring. Lilypaw stood up knowing she was already caught. "It's you, kittypet..." The cat said. Lilypaw flicked her ear at the word 'kittypet'. "Who are you?" Lilypaw asked. The cat slightly rolled their eyes. "My name is Windnose. You may have not seen me yet because I go on many patrols and I like to keep to myself..." Windnose said with a grudge in his voice. Lilypaw tilted her head. "Why are you up so late?" She asked, narrowing her eyes. "Well there's a few cats wanting to join our clan and I'm going to meet up with them." Windnose flicked his tail to the direction he was walking in. "Go back to sleep." He said as he trotted away. Lilypaw opened her mouth to say something but Windnose had already disappeared into the darkness. Lilypaw shook her head and turned around to go back to the den. Sunlight blazed into the den, causing Lilypaw and the other apprentices to wake up. Lilypaw stretched her forelimbs and padded out the den behind Jaypaw. She stopped in her tracks as she saw three unfamiliar cats in the middle of camp who were talking to Windnose. Lilypaw curiously padded up to them, her tail raised in greeting. "Hello!" She said in a friendly tone. Windnose and the three cats turned their heads to look at Lilypaw. "Hello, dear." Said the biggest of the new cats. "My name is Sunny and these are my two kits, Beetle and Autumn." Sunny looked at her two kits. Lilypaw smiled as she looked at them. Windnose slightly growled as one of the kits slashed at his tail playfully. Sunny picked up the kit, with an embarrassed look on her face. "Sorry about that, Beetle is super playful." She muffled through the kit's fur. Beetle fidgeted, trying to get out of his mother's jaws but failed to do so. "Put me down!" He mewed with a squeaky voice. Autumn, who was grooming herself, rolled her eyes. Lilypaw turned to Autumn. "I like your fur." She said.. Autumn stopped grooming herself and stared at Lilypaw. "I like you not talking to me." She hissed. Lilypaw lowered her ears, taken aback. "Be nice, Autumn." Sunny said scornfully. Autumn rolled her eyes again and turned around, her back facing the others. Suddenly cats began to sit down around the high rock as Rainstar appeared on top of it. Lilypaw followed the cats and sat down under the rock and looked up at Rainstar excitedly. Rainstar cleared his throat before he spoke, "Today we have three new cats who are interested in joining the clans. Due to our clan being low on warriors we will gladly accept them." He turned to Sunny, Beetle and Autumn who were sitting at the very front. "As they are now a part of our clan they will receive new names. Sunny will now be known as Sunnyflower and Beetle and Autumn are old enough to be apprentices so until they receive their warrior names, they will be known as Beetlepaw and Autumnpaw. Beetlepaw, your mentor will be Slickstream. I hope that they will pass down all they know to you." Beetlepaw excited bounced up to Slickstream who crouched down and touched his nose with his. "Autumnpaw, your mentor will be Windnose. I hope they will pass down all they know onto you." Windnose sighed and padded up to Autumnpaw who kept her head down, refusing to touch noses. "Come on Autumnpaw, it's a traditional thing you have to do it." Windnose said, annoyed. Autumnpaw scoffed and did what she was told but only for a split second. The crowd of cats began to cheer their new names. As the meeting ended and the cats dispersed from the high rock, Lilypaw padded up to the new apprentices. Autumnpaw quickly walked away as Lilypaw approached. Lilypaw sighed and turned to Beetlepaw who was fighting with a blade of grass. "Hello, Beetlepaw." Lilypaw said happily. Beetlepaw didn't respond and continued biting the grass. Lilypaw giggled. "I can tell you'll be a good fighter." She joked. Beetlepaw still ignored Lilypaw and began chasing a leaf that was floating by. Lilypaw shrugged. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of chapter
