Story of Undertale is a terrible misrepresentation of the Undertale story as a whole, despite its name. There are several flaws on how the game is presented, from the visuals to the plot. The visuals are atrocious. It’s obvious that there was almost no effort put into the animation, everything’s just lazily tweened around. The art style does this video no favors whatsoever, the human’s face looks nothing like how it does in the game - they usually have what looks to be a little closed, squinted eyes, however in SOU the eyes are WIDE open the entire time. Chara’s design is arguably even worse, as they look like a deranged old lady instead of a scary genocidal killer. There’s a difference. Furthermore, Sans’ mouth never closes - he always has the same goofy grin the entire game. Same goes for Papyrus - his chin is never supposed to reach the top of his teeth. Flowey is another egregious example - instead of having the canonical six petals, he is given ten in this animation. However, those are all the fundamental flaws - there are several minor inconsistencies in all the other characters but that really just comes down to an ugly-looking art style. Now, let's talk about the actual story being presented. This is supposed to be a representation of the genocide run out there are several problems that make it not pass in the context of the game. First off, the human does not talk, heck they don't even sing. That's an immediate 10 points for consistency off the bat. The human makes the decision to kill everyone in the middle of Snowdin - this instantly devalues this as a proper run, especially since Toriel was never once killed beforehand, instantly locking the player out of the run. Adding on, Toriel never actually goes out into Snowdin with the human. Papyrus would also be seen in Grilby's, which never happens in the game. He hates that place. When the human kills Undyne, she doesn't leave a bloody corpse behind, but instead turns to dust with her True Hero armor. Later on the human meets up with Alphys and Mettaton - which never happens. If this was truly a genocide run then she would already have hidden everyone away and would never be seen for the entirety the game. Furthermore, Mettaton would not host his game show at this point either. Sans and Papyrus' dead skulls are also found in Hotland, which is not accurate. Papyrus would have been killed in Snowdin, and Sans would be dead at the very end in the judgement hall the scene where the human chronologically inaccurate this never happens in any run. In a neutral run the human can leave him hanging and let him fall, or in a genocide run, they attempt to kill the monster kid with Undyne jumping in to take the blow. And lastly, the human never stands at the top of Undyne's hill with her spears. And let us no forget about the beginning hot with all the main bosses together at the begin there's a small scene where Asgore, Flowey, and Monster kid all meet up in the same shot for a few seconds this never happens And don't even get me started on the actual song itself it's incredibly shoddily made. Though you can argue that the characters don't actually have any v in the game, none of the provided vocals fit even the personalities of each of the represented characters. They all have the same willy, horribly autotuned voice. Heck the song's not even original, it's just a rehashed parody of Bad Romance. This alone tanks whatever feelings may have for the original song as would only remind me of this dreadful parody. Story of Undertale is not accurate to the Undertale game. Not at an event that's what they were going for, it has already corrupted those who unironically enjoy it. Embracing cringe culture can lead to one's ultimate descent into insanity. Cute dog at the end though. 2 out of 5 stars.
