Songcloud rushed through the forest to meet the love of her life, Blackfang. It was hard for her to meet up with him as StormClan and BlazeClan didn’t share borders. They always met up at the Nightingale Tree, the gathering place for the 3 clans. “Blackfang!” she yowled as she spotted his dark fur rushing towards her. “Songcloud! What’s happening?” She panted as she came to a stop. “I’m expecting our kits!” Blackfang stared at her with a look of surprise in his amber eyes. “For how long?” he asked. “They’re coming soon, I can feel it.” “That’s…” “Exciting? Amazing?” Songcloud exclaimed. “I’m going to be a father? For real?” “Yes Blackfang!” “Songcloud, you can’t tell anyone they’re half-clan. Are there any toms the father could be in BlazeClan?” “There’s Greenwing, everyone knows he has a crush on me. He looks sort of similar to you.” Songcloud sighed. “It could work.” Blackfang came out and sat on the lowest branch of the Nightingale Tree. He waited. If Songcloud was late that would be okay. He would wait forever for her. He saw a white figure creeping through the trees. Blackfang’s heart leaped. It's her! he thought. Blackfang leapt down from the tree and ran to meet her. They touched their noses. “The kits are beautiful,” she murmured in his ear. “What do they look like? What are their names?” “There's Icekit who is a white she-cat with blue eyes, Fangkit, who's black with white splotches with amber eyes - I named him after you - and Windkit, he's orange with white paws and yellow eyes.” “They sound amazing.” Blackfang licked her ear. Songcloud waited until every warrior, apprentice, kit, elder, everyone, was asleep. She stretched and walked out into the camp. She looked around to make sure no one was around and ran for the camp entrance. She breathed in the scent of oak trees as she entered the forest. She walked toward the gathering place, not knowing how she was feeling as she waited to tell him the news. The Nightingale tree towered over any other trees, and she could see Blackfang sitting on the small, gray, round rock sitting in front of the magnificent tree. She ran towards him at full speed and skidded to a stop in front of him. “What? I recognize that face. What’s the news?” he asked. Songcloud looked at him, crestfallen. “Fangkit died. He had terrible kittencough by and Everleaf did everything he could, but…” Blackfang just stared at the ground. Losing a kit wasn’t easy. “But!” Songcloud brightened up, the cloud in her eyes lessening. “I’m going to have more kits!” “Already?” he asked. “So soon after the first three?” “They’ll be amazing, just like the first ones.” Blackfang rubbed his muzzle against her cheek, “I’m sure they will.” “Come on kits,” Songcloud said. “We’re going to meet your father!” “I thought Greenwing was our father,” Windkit meowed. Songloud paused. “Well, that's not entirely true.” The kits bounded after her. Blackfang was surprised when she arrived with multiple bundles of fuzz and fluff. “This is Icekit, Windkit, and Echokit.” “Is that it for the second litter?” Blackfang asked. “Only Echokit. Kits, this is your father, Blackfang.” “What clan is he from?” Echokit asked. “We’re half-clan! I think,” Icekit said. “I can’t wait to tell Streamkit and Blackkit and Shadekit when we get home!” Windkit meowed. “Blackfang is from StormClan, which means yes, you are half-clan. You aren’t allowed to tell anybody, for your own safety,” Songcloud said sternly. “Do you understand?” “Yes!” The three kits mewed in unison. “They will be good warriors,” Songcloud said to Blackfang. “I just know it.”
