We stood staring at it for about five minutes before Mac finally knocked on the door. It swung open ominously. Castor let out a nervous laugh. “Maybe she forgot to lock it?” No one responded. The hallway was dark, and the house was oddly quiet. Everything had a thick layer of dust on it, and potted plants were shattered. I took in a shuddering breath. Colleen gripped my arm. She was shaking. “Castor…” Was all she managed to get out. Mac took the lead, then stopped suddenly, cursing. He turned to me. “Watch him.” He nudged his head towards Castor. Still holding on to Colleen, I grasped Castor’s hand. “Whatever happens, just… know we’re here.” I whispered. He didn’t acknowledge me. “Mac, what is it?” His voice was dark. He looked at the floor. “It’s best you see for yourself.” Castor shook off my hand and stepped forward into the dining room. He froze, his eyes glazing over. I took a couple cautious steps, Colleen right behind me. When I got there, I whimpered, and Colleen gasped. Sitting, as much as it could sit, was a b0dy. And not just a b0dy. It was Castor’s mother. Her head was flat on the table, her hand still grasping a b3er bottle. Wrapped around her body were several hissing snakes, venom dripping from their fangs. Smoke rose from the body as it slowly burned away, spelling out: You can’t run forever. Castor stood, still in shock. Tears ran silently down his face. His fists were clenched at his side, the bl0od slowly draining from his knuckles. “Castor…” I hesitantly took a step forward. Colleen stayed behind. “Go away, Venus. This… this is all your fault!” His voice started out as a whisper but quickly escalated to a yell. “I should have never agreed to go with you! Look what happened! Look what I’ve lost now…” “But… It’s not my fault. You chose to come!” I said, trying to stay calm. He glared at me. “You’re a mistake Venus. You shouldn’t exist. N0thing about you is right!” I took a step backwards. “It’s not like I asked for this! It’s not like I want to be who I am!” “Good. Because no one l!kes who you are. You’re just as bad as your mom. Va!n, self!sh, d!tzy.” He said coldly. I swallowed. What if he was right? “ Want to talk about selfish? Look at you and your dad. Big He runs in the family. Along with uselessness." “I’m useless? Who's the goddess who can barely fight? You’re supposed to be powerful. But you can’t even pr0tect yourself.” With that, he walked out of the room and slammed the door. Mac and Colleen followed him, but I stayed behind. Trapped within myself. A sharp pa!n hit my ankles, but it couldn’t match the emotional toll Castor’s words had on me. My mind became dizzy, and I heard a dull thud as my head hit the floor. *********************************** “Hello, darling.” A familiar voice called out. “Ready to join my side?” I slowly pulled myself off the ground and took a look at my surroundings. I was in the field of pu!shment. Or, at least it looked like I was. Scre echoed throughout the area, and my vision was tinted red. “Why am I here?” I snapped, not patient at all and still angry about my previous conversation. She laughed, a harsh gravely sound. “Still not ready yet, my dear? You should be. Can’t you see you are no l0nger wanted?” I still couldn’t see her, she was just a wisp of black fog, with a vaguely humanoid shape. I didn’t respond. “Oh, so you’re being noble then? Well, nobles d!e young and stup!d, I say.” Her voice was light, almost humorous. “Why can’t you just leave me alone?” I yelled. “Poor, poor, child.” She simpered. “Stup!d, stup!d, godling.” I tried to stomp away, but the setting didn’t move at all. I could almost feel her smirking. “Ah, ah, ah.” She scolded. “No leaving yet. I’m not quite done with you.” I turned around, glaring. “Well I am.”
