just a little fic/theory/thingy I wrote. WARNING IT IS DARK! Just... what if the 'breaking under guilt/grief/violence' thing doesn't apply to Sophie for whatever reasons?
Sophie did not notice at first. Did not think to notice. Did not think it strange or unnatural. Eventually she did notice, it was impossible not to. When everything was falling apart and her friends had such a hard time dealing with it. With the grief and guilt that was as dangerous as any weapon or attack the Neverseen threw against them. She thought at first it was a side effect of living with Humans for so long, and during her formative years. That she was just slightly better at handling negative emotions as an Telepath and an Inflicter. She was still an Elf after all, albeit a strange one. She never thought that it was something else. An unknown ability. The Blackswan never meant to give her. Something as useful as it was dangerous. Black holes are more dangerous than stars. It was what she was missing that made her powerful. Sophie Foster would never break mentally. Could never break mentally. Could never understand no matter how many broken minds she healed, what it felt like to break from guilt, from grief, from violence. It was a strange thing but not one to worry about. Not when the world was changing and she had people to save. Not until she was alone and cornered and only had a knife and a few hours of training to protect herself. Not until she realized in the aftermath, in the cleanup. That if she had been anyone else she couldn't have done it. She was the Moonlark. She could do things no other Elf could do. Did that make her a hero? Or did that make her a monster worse than those she fought?
