Icekit waited, waited, waited, pounced! Windkit and Icekit collided. “Hey!” Icekit meowed, reeling back. “That was my moss!” “Was not!” Windkit argued. “It was mine!” Echokit leaped onto the moss and clawed it, growling. “Echokit, you’re too young to play with moss!” Windkit said. “I’m two moons old! I can play with moss! And you guys are the only kits to play with.” “Flamesight will have her kits just before we become apprentices,” Icekit meowed. "You can play with them." “But I won’t be an apprentice for 3 moons after that! And those kits will be so little. They won’t be any fun to play with,” Echokit complained. “Echokit, take that back!” Songcloud walked out of the nursery. “Flamesight’s kits will be beautiful.” “You say that word every time you see dad,” Windkit observed. Songcloud tensed. “What?” “When you bring us to see father you always tell him we’re beautiful. Or he tells you that you’re beautiful. You use that word too much,” Windkit said. “Greenwing, too.” “Well, I guess maybe that’s true.” Songcloud thought about it for a second. “You're very insightful, Windkit." I’m going to be the best warrior! Icekit thought. I don’t think I want to be leader though, that sounds exhausting and hard, even though you get nine lives. And I'd be a target for assassination plots, which means fewer lives to lose in battle or to sicknesses. Windkit puffed out his chest and ran around the camp meowing, “I’m going to be an excellent warrior!” Rosetuft stuck her head out of her den. “Sure you will, kit. First, though, you’ll search our fur for ticks! Windkit ran around camp and stopped at the elder’s den again. “What are ticks?” he asked. “They’re little bugs that suck your blood. You need mouse bile to get them off and kill them, which you get from the medicine cat,” the elder said. Windkit continued to run around the camp. He panted as he plopped down in front of the nursery. “I learned about ticks!” he told his sisters. “We heard,” Echokit said. "You were sooo loud." Windkit's energy withered a bit. Icekit tried to backtrack “Well, we didn’t know about ticks either, so we learned something too.” Windkit smiled a little. “Now, let’s pretend the moss is a FernClan warrior trespassing on our territory!” They crept toward the moss, not at all stealthy. “I’ll lead the patrol,” Icekit said. “All right,” Windkit agreed. “But next time, I get to lead.” “Fine,” meowed Echokit, grumbling. “Pounce!” Icekit yowled. The kits took turns batting at the moss. Windkit jumped on it and pummeled it with his hind legs. Echokit crept up and bit it, shaking it back and forth, growling. Icekit jumped on it and dug her claws in. “Our territory is defended!” she said, satisfied. Echokit yawned and curled up on the ground. Windkit did the same a minute later. Icekit curled in between them and they took a nap.
Aww, widdle kittens sleeping Also, don't count on the chapters being posted this often. It'll probably slow down later on.
