⬫◊ Chapter 11: Detective Skills ◊⬫ Coming back from vacation was complete madness. The children flocked back to the castle, turning every corner upside down. Everyone talked non-stop about their gifts, anecdotes and even trips they had taken. Draco, for example, was delighted to brag about the wonderful, dazzling, expensive French hotel he had stayed in for several days. With all that, the first classes were especially hard. The air was still frozen and the Christmas excitement was still beating within the students, who were not able to concentrate for more than five minutes at a time in the monotonous History of Magic lessons. However, that lasting spirit of happiness and brotherhood made it possible for Aurora and Lyra, who had hardly spoken to each other for about a month, to put themselves in each other's shoes. “Hey Aurora… can we talk?” Lyra said softly the first time she found her friend alone in her room. “Sorry” she replied immediately. “I got too angry and I shouldn't have said so much nonsense. Also, I think you and Anthony make a great couple” Aurora spoke quickly. She couldn't have lasted a second longer being angry with her best friend. “If anyone has to apologize, it's me. I was too enthralled with him…” Lyra's cheeks turned a rosy tone “and well, maybe before I met him I was a little envious. But I shouldn't have left you alone.” She looked at the tips of her shoes. Aurora gave her a little kick. “Friends, then?” When Lyra looked up, she could see a small smile on Aurora's face. They both melted into a hug. "Of course" “Now, tell me EVERYTHING about you and Anthony. It's not a question” Aurora laughed. Both girls talked at length to catch up... until Aurora confessed a secret that she had been keeping for several days. A few hours after the train brought the students back, she had found a gray note exactly like the previous one in the pocket of her tunic. *Know? The only good thing about going back to class is knowing that you will be there so that the happiness of the holidays does not fade* Lyra had jumped out of bed reading it. “And you still don't know who sends them to you? I need to know NOW” And that's what they tried. Now they knew that the boy went to her class, and they had managed to rule out many thanks to the tags on the gifts. And unless Albert, Kevin or Cormac had noticed her from the distance, the only ones who could have written that were Gabriel and Theo. “Haven't you done your homework, Mr. Nott?” Aurora teased as she sat next to Theo in astronomy. He rolled up the scroll he was writing before she could read it. “It was just the potions notes” he said, resting an elbow on the table with a smug expression. "You're sure?" She raised an eyebrow. “Because, unless you show them to me, I'm not going to believe you.” Aurora wanted, no matter what, to see anything written by Theo. She… needed to know if it had been him. “Don't you trust me? Or do you want to copy?” “It offends me that you think that, honestly” she said, placing a hand dramatically on her chest. She would NEVER cheat in a class. She didn't need it either. However, they couldn't continue talking, because the teacher entered class... and Theo didn't allow Aurora to see his accomplished and excellent work. Later, in charms, Harry approached Aurora as soon as she entered the door to ask if it was true that Snape had given them a pop quiz... and to inform her about his latest but null discoveries about Flamel, since she had been helping them since christmas. Normally she would have loved to be considered that way... but not in that class. She wanted to sit with Gabriel. So, when the lesson finished, she went directly to his seat. She was upset to see that he was no longer there... but his stuff was. His notebook. She was going to pick it up when… “So waiting for me at my desk. Do you miss me so much?” Gabriel joked as he jumped onto the table. Aurora rolled her eyes sarcastically, although she smiled. Gabe always made her laugh. “You had forgotten your books” “No, now I was coming to pick them up” he shrugged. “I was in a hurry… and I recommend that you don't cross the hallway on the right if you don't want to test the ingenuity of the Weasley twins” he said quietly with a mischievous smile. "Oh really?" she laughed. “Would I tell you if it wasn’t?” He laughed. "Well, I have to go. Potions.” he rolled his eyes before smiling again. "See you!" He stood up and winked at her before turning around. “Were you going to steal Gabriel's supplies?” It was Hermione. She must have seen her. "No! I- just wanted to see his handwriting” she said hastily. When she saw Hermione's disbelieving face, she had no choice but to sigh and confess everything. “Aurora, you should focus on your studies. Know that one day you'll find out who is sending you those notes” said Hermione. Deep down, Aurora knew that she was right. She was only 11 years old. She had plenty of time to wait for the answers to arrive
