-Her Protector- (Full Version) Written 100% by @cinnxbwunnie We were awakened by the soft, rhythmic chimes of our pods. The gradual illumination of the spaceship pulled me from the disorientation that took over me. [Italics] One… Two… Three… I regulated my breaths carefully as my body slowly balanced the weightlessness of my bones against my heavy eyelids. Collectively, we emerged from our pods like cocoons and my blurry vision came into focus with a glistening bracelet. [Italics] We don’t deserve to be here. I stared heartlessly at it, worn by time. It was adorned with precious gems from Gaia. A garnet, an aquamarine and emerald, a ruby, and a diamond. Each of them glistening under the cold, grey lights, as if it held the energy of our sun within it. It was the only remnant of her we were able to save before we fled. I hated it. Disturbed, I was greeted with the grief-stricken memories of the past that leaked like a loose faucet I had been trying so hard to shut off. A surge of resentment washed over me as I failed to fathom how our ancestors could so easily destroy everything they once swore to protect and cherish. We played under the protection of her rustling leaves. Her rivers and creeks flowed through every corner, bringing life to those who needed it. She kept us nourished with bounties of crops as we flourished her soils gently. She cradled us with her clouds and kept us safe under her warm embrace. Amidst her songs of prosperity, occasionally, her generosity gifted us with rare treasures and gems. She kept everything in perfect harmony. But we killed her. Waves of sorrow engulfed me. The flashback of terrors flooded my mind and swelled my soul. I could still hear the screams of the people like it was just yesterday. Their lives taken by the bloodthirsty flames and raging waves. I broke down. Completely. Tides of tears cascaded down my cheeks as the realisation of our ignorance towards her desperate cries rippled in my mind. [Italics] If only we stopped. Animals that once roamed freely in peace with garnet-like vitality now hung by our lavish demands. We stripped them clean, their skin draped across our bodies like a prize we were so foolish to think we deserved. [Italics] If only we stopped. She enthralled us with the lustre of her vast aquamarine oceans, now brown and murky, polluted with poison and waste. Her magnificently vibrant, yet intricate tapestry of corals that once danced in symphony with the waves now grey and still. [Italics] If only we stopped. The lush emerald kingdom of forests we once frolicked, now reigned by cold concrete cities. We choked her with thick smog that loomed over streets. We continued to stab spears through her core and limitless grey skies, fabricating labyrinths of mountainous skyscrapers. [Italics] If only we stopped. The ruby red heart that once held her unconditional love and care was stripped, replaced, and left in utter chaos. Alone. [Italics] Hannah… A gentle touch stroked my long, dark hair, and in a fleeting moment, delicate flowers started to twist in my frigid heart. [Italics] I will always be right here with you. The diamond glimmered as I gazed at it and a spark flickered in my heart. It reflected a set of determined hazel eyes that stared back at me. I carefully put the bracelet around my dainty wrist and tightened its gold clasp. [Italics] We must protect her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note from cinna (For writing contest) Hey! Thanks for reading!
