You flip the page, but it seems there’s nothing more to this file. Strange… You could’ve sworn the file had been bigger. You must’ve missed something. Frowning, you flip back through the file, but there really is nothing more. You set it aside, puzzled, and pick up the next. File #002 I follow Lani through the cars of the train, head still ducked. She finally stops near the back, in a nearly empty car. There’s only one other passenger in it at the moment. His skin is a warm tan, darker than mine, and his eyes are an intoxicating shade of brown. His hair is an obviously dyed, bright shade of yellow that grabs your attention and demands it never let go. Vahalani nudges me. “No falling in love before you even talk to them, Solnedgang,” She says, not even trying to be quiet. The guy doesn’t look up, though, thankfully. I shoot her a ‘be quiet and stop meddling’ glare, but she just smiles sweetly and nudges me again. Sighing, and knowing she’s never going to let this go, I slowly shuffle over and sit down next to him. Thankfully, Vahalani takes the seat next to mine so I don’t have to sit next to any other strangers. You notice another note in the margin but decide to skip over it, not wanting the rest of the file to disappear again. You can look at it later. The train ride passes in silence, Vahalani eventually falling asleep against my shoulder. No one comes into our small car, leaving the three of us be. The other guy doesn’t make any attempt at conversation; he’s too busy staring at the ground, as if it held the secrets to the universe and he was trying to wrestle them away through a staring contest. As we get close to my and Vahalani’s stop, he opens his mouth and says slowly, “I’m Chrysanthos.” The file stops there. Apparently, whoever put these together likes small files with suspense filled endings. Already feeling attached to Solnedgang and Vahalani, you set the file aside, needing to know what happens next, only to remember the note in the margin. You grab it again and flip it open, scanning for the note. So very much gay love. But is this love at first sight… or soulmate at first sight? There’s another heart, this time in between the two sentences. Your heart pounds with worry; Chrysanthos was the one who killed his soulmates. Was Solnedgang going to die so soon? As you hastily throw the file into the pile of finished files, you miss another note fluttering out of it; in a different script, this one says simply, Soulmate, love, soulmate.
