Diana wasn't like the other children. She didn't join in their games or their laughter. She preferred to spend her time sitting by the window, watching the world outside and taking in the beauty of the forest. It was as if the trees whispered secrets to her, and the birds sang their songs just for her. One day, a new girl named Emily arrived at the orphanage. Emily was lively and outgoing, making friends with the other children easily. But she, too, couldn't understand why Diana was always so quiet. "Come on, Diana, join us in the garden!" Emily urged one sunny afternoon. Diana simply shook her head and continued gazing out the window. The other children laughed and ran outside, leaving Diana alone. As the days passed, Emily couldn't help but be curious about Diana. She decided to approach her and strike up a conversation. "Hey, Diana, why are you always so quiet?" Emily asked gently. Diana turned to her and whispered softly, "I don't know. I've just always been this way." Emily smiled and said, "Well, I think your quietness is a gift. It's like you can hear things that the rest of us can't." Diana's eyes brightened for the first time in a long while. She realized that maybe her silence wasn't a curse but a special gift. The two girls soon became close friends, and Emily learned to appreciate the beauty of the forest through Diana's eyes. They would spend hours exploring the woods, discovering hidden streams, and listening to the rustling leaves. But one fateful day, tragedy struck. A powerful storm hit the town, and lightning struck a massive tree at the edge of the forest. The tree, which had been standing for centuries, came crashing down with a thunderous roar. Emily and Diana had been playing near the tree when disaster struck. Diana managed to push Emily out of harm's way just in time, but she couldn't save herself. The fallen tree trapped Diana beneath its massive branches. The other children rushed to the scene, and with the help of the adults, they managed to lift the tree and free Diana. However, it was too late. Diana had sacrificed her own life to save her friend. The once-hated and quiet orphan had become a hero in the eyes of the town. They buried Diana near the forest she had loved so much, and her memory lived on as the guardian of the woods. From that day on, the children learned to appreciate the quiet ones among them, knowing that sometimes, silence held the greatest strength and courage of all.
