It's beautiful, with its greens in spring and brushed golds of autumn, the pale blues out in the distance, but you have spent more of your time dreaming about it than actually seeing it up close. The limits of being a youngster, you suppose. This longing is why your heart starts pounding when your mother calls you for dinner with an official-looking piece of parchment in her hand. This longing is why you run inside as fast as you can, leaving your makeshift wooden sword behind with your confused friends. This longing is why you sit down at the dinner table wriggling with anticipation, your mother smiling with a knowing look. "Yes, it's time," she says. She unfurls the parchment on the table, the familiar blocky letters of the Chieftain's handwriting unravelling before your eyes: "Dear tribemate, The Dragon Riders are opening recruitment for our next class of future Riders. With your enthusiasm, compassion, and affinity for the skies, we believe you are ready. When you are prepared, come to The Hatchery to begin your training. We shall see what kind of warrior you truly are. Congratulations! Moonlit, Summer, and Sun, the Chieftain and Head Dragon Riders of this island" You gasp.
