Chapter 8 Boggarts As Lena and Lavanta stood next to a bunch of Hufflepuff students, a tall, shabby man with hazel brown hair and moustache walked in the classroom. He then stood next to the shaking drawer and pulled out his wand. “Hello everyone, nice to meet you. First, let me introduce myself. I am Professor Remus James Lupin, you can call me Professor Lupin.” he introduced as he straightened up. “So! Today, we will be learning about how to protect yourselves from the Boggarts, which is just right over there, inside the drawer. Firstly, can anybody tell me what Boggarts are?” Professor Lupin asked, as some students tilted their heads with curiosity. “It’s a shape-shifter.” a blonde hufflepuff girl answered. “It can take any form of the opponent’s greatest fear.” “Precisely, Ms Lovegood!” Professor Lupin smiled. “A Lovegood? Who is that?” Lavanta whispered. “She’s my cousin, Starla Lovegood. I used to go to her house on the Christmas holidays before I attended Hogwarts.” Lena replied, thinking of the past years’ memories. When Lavanta understood, Starla gave Lena and Lavanta a warm wave. Lena and Starla replied with a cheerful wave as well. “Right then, everyone! You are now going to copy me and say without your wands, Riddikulus!” Professor Lupin said. “Riddikulus!” Everyone copied. “Great, everyone! Now think of the thing that you are afraid of the most. It can be anything, anyone in the world,” Professor Lupin explained. “As Ms Lovegood explained, Boggarts are shape-shifters that change into the opponent’s greatest fear. So, you need to think of the most hilarious thing you can make your greatest fear into. Think of the both things I said and you will be able to perform the Riddikulus spell. Who’s going first?” Nobody raised their hands. “No one? Hmmm…. Then how about Ms Brown? Lavanta, come out here.” Professor Lupin pointed right in front of the drawer. “Remember, think of the funny thing that could go with your scariest thing.” Then, Professor Lupin unlocked the lock that was on the handle of the drawer. With a swish, a misty figure spinned violently before turning into a circle candy-like thing. It was white, and it had a curved straight line over the middle. It looked like one of the collections Mr Weasley had shown last year. It was a collection Mr Weasley had collected from Muggles called Doctors. He told her that it was called a capsule, a tablet, or simply just a medicine. He taught her how to use this medicine-you swallow it with water. ‘When you don’t swallow it quick enough, it might melt and that would taste very bitter.’ Mr Weasley taught Lena all of the information about medicines last year. Looking at Lavanta, it looked like she had tried one of them before and got a trauma from it.//Lavanta is a pure-blood. Lavender mentioned that she was a pure-blood in the books.// Suddenly, the white circular medicine spun around as Lavanta shouted and transformed itself into a puffy cloud and popped soon after it transformed into the cloud. Everybody laughed, as Lavanta started to feel happy about the fact that she succeeded in producing the Boggart into a cloud. “Good job, Lavanta. You’ve performed the precisest magic! Great….great…. Right, we are now going to try you, Ms Lovegood, I mean, Lena, please!” Professor Lupin cried happily. ‘I can do it, I can do it, I can do it….” Lena thought nervously as she trailed the anxious steps towards the drawer.
