They ran into the room lit by old wax candles, shrunken by age. Once they all came in, two members slammed the door shut, barricading it with a few chairs. The room had dusty bookshelves filled with cobwebbed books. The writing desk sat in the middle of the room, and a broken lamp laid on top. The group was out of breath and took their needed rest, except for a brown cat in a princess costume named Meadow, who started to pace. A fox in a phantom thief costume named West laid his ear against the door. “I think it’s gone. “ He told them. Meadow kept pacing, concerning the rest of the group. “Meadow-” A brown-haired human wearing a batgirl costume named Clover started. “Are you okay?” Meadow nodded, which slowly turned into a head shake. “No, I’m not fine-” “We need to stay calm about this.” West chimed in. “Calm?” Meadow asked, facing the group. “How can you expect me to stay calm? We have a flipping monster chasing us! Who not only came out of nowhere but already took away someone! We’re trapped in a super creepy house with no way out, and you expect to stay calm?” She yelled. Clover walked up to Meadow and put her hands on her shoulders. “Please, we can’t lose our heads. Being like this will only make it worse. It’s okay to be scared. I’m scared, too. But, we just need to be calm and think straight.” Meadow sighed, slightly calming down. Thunder rolled through the house, making everyone jump. The group didn’t remember it raining when they were outside. “I bet our parents are worried. “ West said. Everyone agreed. Their night began with trick-or-treating as a group, like any other Halloween. But they had long abandoned their candy. Their focus was only on surviving the night. One of them stood above the others. She was a dragon in fake clone trooper armor named Bumby. “Okay, I know I’m stating the obvious. But we need to form a plan to escape.” She announced. They all nodded in agreement. “Before we do so, I should share another theory.” She paused. “I think we have a mole.” A black, winged cat in a witch costume named Stormy, who was looking at the books, faced Bumby. “You mean, like a spy?” She asked in a worried voice. “Yes, and it is one of us.” Bumby finished before sitting on the desk. The friends looked at one another suspiciously, wondering who it could be. “Why do you think there’s a spy?” West budded in. “This…….thing. ” Bumby said, describing the mysterious creature. “Seems to know our every move.” “He could just be vigilant. “ A brown cat with glasses in a dragon costume named Haven interrupted. “I mean, this is most likely something supernatural.” “Exactly!” Bumby yelled, making everyone jump. “The person who’s spying may not know they’re spying.” “So, like a possession?” Clover asked. Everyone nodded. “Who would it be?” Meadow asked. “How can we find out?” “Hmm, everyone wasn’t together the whole night. We’re lucky to have regrouped-” Haven started. “Except Tildy.” Meadow sighed. “Except Tildy. But maybe we should take statements from people who were in smaller groups. So we have the whole story.” Haven offered. “Everyone should share what they saw.” “That’s a good idea. ” Bumby told her. “But who would go first?” West spoke up. “Let’s think back to the beginning of the night to see if there were any hints. Then we can take statements when we get to arriving here. ” (Notes and credits)

Clover, West, Stormy, Meadow, Bumby, and Haven were together in a single group. When arriving at a particular house, they stopped, and West walked to the front door. The doorbell’s ring echoed as he waited for an answer. The rest of the group stood on the sidewalk with empty bags. The door creaked open to reveal a brown-haired human with horns and wings named Tildy. She wore a paladin costume from Voltron. “Tildy! Are you ready for some candy?” West asked her. “Of course! I’ve been waiting for this night for weeks!” She said, waving goodbye to whoever was in the house and closing the door. Now that the whole group was together, they started their Trick Or Treat rampage. After just an hour of chatting and hitting every house on the way, they had their bags full of treats. As they walked, Tildy noticed something. It was a metal gate chained shut. “Hey guys, how about we check that place out?” She said, pointing to the house behind the gate. One look and the group all shivered. “That’s a creepy one. ” Clover said, going up to the chained gate. Suddenly, the chains fell to the ground with a sharp clanging. “What did you do?” Meadow asked Clover. “I didn’t touch a thing. ” She said, confused. “Let’s go inside!” West told them, and a few stepped back in fear. “No way I’m going there, nope!” Meadow said, turning around. “Come on, it could be fun!” Bumby said, slowly opening the gate. “We still have some time before going home. We also already have a good amount of candy. Why not? It could make the night more memorable.” Tildy said, going through, West and Bumby following close behind. The rest of the group still refused. West thought it over. “How about this? Whoever stays inside the gate the longest gets candy from each other person. As a small game.” He offered. The people on the sidewalk looked at one another. Slowly, they agreed, coming through the gate, except for Meadow. “Come on, you don’t want to be alone, do you?” Bumby asked. Meadow shook her head quickly, coming inside. “I still don’t like this. ” Meadow added. They made their way to the house. It looked dark and empty, and its cracked windows reflected the moon’s light as they came close. “This is a big house. ” West commented. “It’s like some sort of abandoned mansion.” A gale of wind blew the branches of the tall trees, carrying the fallen leaves over the house. “Eek-” Meadow squeaked, causing everyone to look in her direction. She was looking in the forest. “I thought I saw something. ” She whispered, facing the group again. Tildy was nowhere in sight. “Tildy?” Bumby said. There was no response. Only the wind alone made a sound. Someone jumped from the bushes and grabbed Meadow’s shoulder, causing her to scream quickly. Her eyes closed so she didn’t know it was Tildy as she struggled to escape. Tildy laughed loudly. “I got her.” She said with another laugh. After Meadow saw Tildy, she punched her arm, saying “That wasn’t funny!” The rest of the group was holding back their laughs. "How about we take a look around the place?" Stormy suggested. "I'll go with West and Stormy." Tildy said. The remaining members split into groups of 2 and explored the property. That was the start of their demise.
