“Be not afraid of her when she is awake, for she will strike while she sleeps” - Sir Alexander Bartholomew referencing - The Garthrops bifurcated Sneether The Garthrops spends most of its days curled up in a fetal like position, waiting on prey ranging double its size; its split vertebrae and expandible ribcage allow prey to slide easily through their esophagus like a snake. Without a jaw it uses the lock of its “teeth” or rather bone protrusions to keep its mouth shut and keep its victims locked inside until overtime, they will be digested. In its fetal position, called the stance of stasis: The Garthrops burrows into snow with the tip of its tail and hairs sticking out, its heart rate drops sending them into a hibernation type state keeping other animals unaware of its position and leaves it free to digest or hunt. While it is left unaware mentally, internally it has a hardwired system to detect prey using its whisker like hairs that send signals to its brain. If not digesting when triggered it will promptly wake up into its stance of attack The stance of attack looks like a bear’s defensive stance where they stand on their hind legs, arms (or rather ribcage for the Garthrops) stretching out to appear bigger. As it stands on its legs it unfurls its teeth and stretches out its mouth, ribcage expanding to accommodate the space it will need when the prey is devoured. Afterwards it retreats into its stance of stasis to digest. Recently, most corpses have been found with holes in their stomachs; their stomach acids are very corrosive as they need to digest large animals’ overtime, if they do not have food often enough their stomachs will burn through. The only thought cause is lack of prey due to environmental changes
yeah just a species desciption the Garthrops bifurcated Sneether is my baby
