Days had passed since their capture, and Carlos and Anna knew that they needed a plan to escape. They had been closely monitored by their captors, preventing them from having any meaningful opportunity to discuss the details of their escape. One day, while they were being escorted for their daily feeding, they saw a glimmer of hope. As they walked, the group of raiders escorting them began to argue amongst themselves, distracted and unaware of their surroundings. In that moment, Carlos and Anna made eye contact, silently agreeing on what they needed to do next. Without thinking twice, they took advantage of the distraction and charged forward, pushing their captors to the ground. Anna grabbed a nearby weapon and struck the closest raider with precision, knocking them out cold. "We have to go!" Carlos shouted, motioning for Anna to follow him. They ran as fast as they could, their hearts racing with adrenaline as they made their way down the corridor, looking for any means of escape. The raiders were in pursuit, but Carlos and Anna kept moving forward. "We need to find a way out of here," Anna said, scanning the area for any possible escape routes. Suddenly, a door on the left side of the hallway caught their attention. It was slightly ajar, and they could hear the sounds of a nearby forest just outside. "Quick, this way!" Carlos urged, pulling Anna towards the door. They burst through the door, the bright sun momentarily blinding them. They continued running towards the tree line, leaves and twigs cracking beneath their feet. As they made their escape, they could hear the raiders getting closer. They were gaining on them, their footsteps getting louder and more intense. With the sounds of shouts and the thumping of footsteps at their heels, they ran with the last ounce of their strength. The chase was intense and they were exhausted but they kept pushing forward.
Finally, they made it to the forest, where they took cover behind a nearby cluster of bushes. They were out of breath and exhausted, but felt victorious. Their plan had succeeded. They had escaped. "Wow," Carlos said, gasping for air. "We did it." Anna gave him a weak smile, but the relief was palpable on her face. "Yes, we did it." As they caught their breath, they tried to make sense of the world around them. They had no idea where they were, how far they were from safety, or what dangers they still faced. "We need to keep moving," Carlos said sternly. "We can't just stop here." Anna nodded, silently agreeing with him. They got up, wiped off any debris from their clothes, and began to make their way towards an unknown future. It would be a long road ahead of them, but they knew they had each other, and they drew strength from that. Together, they would survive whatever the new world threw at them.
