There was a storm out that night. Looking back I seemed so naive, I thought it would be fine I would just go out for an hour or two to get some air. I had checked my clock, it was 3:45 am and I thought it wasn’t too early in the morning, I wasn’t even supposed to be awake for another 3 hours. I had gone downstairs, pulled on my red rain boots, grabbed my favorite navy blue oversized sweater, just in case it stopped raining, my black rain jacket, and changed into a blue t-shirt and black sweatpants, then finally I slid my old pocket knife that my dad had given me on my 14th birthday into my pocket. I grabbed my worn gray backpack and tucked my sweater into it. On the way to the front door, I thought twice and grabbed 2 apples, a granola bar, 3 bags of chips, and about 5 bottles of water and tossed them into my backpack, hoping I wouldn’t need to eat anything more than my granola bar. I was always nervous about what could happen to me, especially since I always loved reading horror novels and stories about people getting lost at sea or kidnaped and put in harsh conditions, I didn’t expect to end up in one. Anyways I had walked out the door backpack slung over one shoulder, only then had I realized how hard it had been raining so I backpedaled back into the house, grabbed a gray umbrella and then I had headed back out the door. My name is Jai, I am a 17 year old girl and I have been missing for 2 years. Once I was outside I had threw on my rain jacket, zipped up and threw on the hood, I had opened my umbrella and then I realized that I almost completely blended in with the rain and the dark setting around me, then I looked down and muttered under my breath “well almost”. I started walking and wondered what a sight I would be to anyone who drove by, simply red rainboots walking around of their own accord. About 10 minutes in, I had seen a tree-line up ahead and realized that I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere, I had started to turn around and head for home when I had realized that I didn’t even know what turn I had made to get lost in the first place, I decided that I would go investigate the tree line a bit and come back and try to find my way home when the rain had calmed down a little bit. I had almost made it to the tree line when I heard the crunch of gravel behind me, I had turned around to see a white van turning a corner towards me, I had raised my hand in greeting, and turned back around, I heard the van get closer but I thought nothing of it, I had expected it to just pass me, then I remembered that I had waved at them and they were probably expecting me to cross the road, I simply turned around and motioned with my hand that they could move forward, but it didn’t and I was starting to get suspicious of the van, I had decided to try to shake it off my trail, if it even was on my trail I had decided to take a few sharp turns and the van followed me for each one until the van stopped and pulled into a driveway, I had thought what a silly coincidence, a boy who looked to be my age hopped out of the passengers seat and an older man hopped out of the drivers seat. The boy had waved at me and I waved back, “we thought you were following us”, said the boy as he motioned me over, “I thought you were following me!” I had said, “we might still be” said a voice behind me, I didn’t even have time to turn around when I felt a hand clap around my mouth, I don’t remember much other than the feeling of being lifted, carried, and some muffled arguing. The next thing I knew I was in a dark house, I was told that I would basically be a maid, I would clean the floors, wash the dishes, and cook. I was to stay in the attic. Once I was done with the days chores, I rushed upstairs and hid my backpack under some clothes in an old dresser I found covered by a sheet in the corner of the room. I have tried multiple times to escape but each time they have some sort of trap there waiting for me. I have been writing my story in this old journal I found in this attic, apparently they emptied this place out of anything useful to escape. I hope someone will find me eventually, the only thing I ask of you if either one of these men are still alive by the time I’m found, I want them to live the rest of their lives in captivity. Just. Like. Me.
