Press space to stop music <3 My NaNoWriMo book I suppose I should explain. How I got here. How I died. A long time ago, well not really that long, a girl was born. That girl was me. I wouldn’t say that I was extraordinary, however, I don’t think I was ordinary. I came from a small family in the middle of a forest. We lived in a little cabin in a large mountain range. I would have to say my family was strange. Firstly, my blood was black. Yes black. I have learned to not really concentrate on it. It is rather difficult to explain if I am around someone and I bleed. My mother didn’t know what to think. She acted like everything was fine. Everything was not fine. My father you may ask? Gone. The second he saw the black he was gone. I loved my mother dearly, however, I am not sure she shared the same affection. She was definitely not one to be messed with. With her dark eyes filled with the sorrow of her past and the way, she could look into your soul. My mother was always strange. She wore these gloves as white as the moon and every once and a while I would see them in the wash black. I tried to think if it was something that I did, but it couldn’t have been. Normally, that happens after my mother has been shut up in her room for a time. There are also random books in the house in different languages—enough about my mother. I am on my way to work. Today would be my first day. I met my supervisor roughly a week ago and he gave me the job on the spot. It was quite a little drive from my house to the city—roughly half an hour. I looked at the time in my small Sudan and saw I was going to be late. “Dang it!” I screamed. I started speeding down the speedway trying my absolute best to not be as late. When I got to the city I slowed a bit and started weaving in and out of the streets. Finally, in the outermost corner, I found where I was supposed to be. I parked my car on the street and ran inside. “You are late. Marie,” my supervisor stated. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t leave on time,” I told him. He rolled his eyes and motioned for me to follow him. We got into an elevator and I saw him press a button. It lit up and the elevator creaked before going down. When we left I saw a big pit. I saw there was a little river that ran through the bottom. I looked over at him and he simply nodded. “Welcome to Project Red Wing. Keep up and do not fail. Do not speak to the boss unless he speaks to you. Got it? Good.” He said. We walked down a flight of metal stairs. I nodded along to what he was saying, but I was marveling at what I was seeing. He opened a door and we entered a small corridor. ...
cont. “That’s your office and mine is right across from it. Your work should be in there already. Good luck. If you see Alan or Ash, remember what I said,” he said. He disappeared into his office. I grabbed the handle of the door. I took a deep breath and entered. When stepping in I looked around. There was a window looking out onto the main floor. The desk was on the opposite side of the room, but I went to grab it and move it in front of the window. I set my laptop down and grabbed the Post-it note. “Check calculations and organize files… can’t be too hard…” I muttered. I logged into my computer and started looking at the calculations. I rummaged through the desk to find scratch paper. Grabbing it I wrote the problems on the paper. Some time later I heard a door slam shut. I looked and saw my supervisor walk out of our little hallway. Someone approached him. He looked stern. Stern but if you got to know him… maybe not so much? I rolled my eyes at my mind and focused back on my work. I shouldn’t have been reading this much fan fiction in my spare time. I try and concentrate on the numbers. “Is that a three…? or is it an eight?” I mutter. I tried moving my head back and forth to see if it helped to clear the numbers, but nope. I set the notebook aside and started to look at the online files that I needed to sort through. “Okay… Let’s try alphabetical and see if that works…?” I questioned. I started to drag files into a lineup based on the first word in the file name. “Some of these are folders… Uh… might as well keep going?” I groaned. A little more instruction could have been helpful. So fun. It’s fine. Yeah. After another hour of staring at the computer, I decided to take a break. I stood up and stretched. I pushed the rolling chair back into the desk and walked around my small space. I pulled my notes up on my phone and made a list of things to bring to my office. “Let’s see… plants… pictures… books… hm… maybe a whiteboard?” I thought about it for a minute before deciding I would. I heard the door to my office open and saw my supervisor. “How is it going in here?” he asked. “Fine. Just taking a break for a few minutes,” I answered. “The boss said he is sending Ash, his assistant, down here to meet you,” he explained. I nodded. “What time?” “Uh. He’s here.” I whipped my head around and sure enough a man was standing there. More of a boy in all honesty. “Hey, I’m Ash and you must be Marie. It is a pleasure to meet you,” he extended his hand. I took it and gave it a firm shake. He gave me a warm smile. “It’s nice to meet you, sir,” I responded. I took my hands and folded them neatly in front of me. “No need for those formalities. Maybe around Alan, but there is no need for that around me. I promise I won’t tell,” he winked. I let a little giggle out. “I will do my best to remember that,” I assured him. “ASH! GET UP HERE. NOW!” someone yelled. “Ah. Speaking of the devil. I must be on my way, but if you ever need anything, I am just a phone call away,” Ash told me. I nodded and felt a smile creep across my face. I looked down and moved back over to my desk looking through the notes I had made earlier. The numbers looked slightly better, but I chose to save those for when I got home. Anything to keep me busy I suppose. I saw my supervisor left me a small note on my desk. He wanted me to reorganize the files. Again. This time based on what they contained? He said to organize by phase. I suppose that makes sense. Just a lot of work. I rolled my eyes, opened my laptop back up, and started looking through all of the files. In their headers, they had what phase they were in and I started making folders of each one. I must have been organizing for hours because when I looked up, it was time to leave. I grabbed my laptop and notebook and exited the small corridor and walked up the stairs. I heard arguing and saw the man from earlier getting in the elevator. I kept my head down. He was talking to someone on the phone. It seemed to be getting rather heated. He shut the phone off, placed his hand on his head, and rubbed his temples. He looked over at me and I tried not to look back at him. “Who are you? I do not recall seeing your face before?” he asked. I gulped. Looking up at him I saw his eyes. A dark piercing blue. I shuddered. “Uh. I am Marie… I just started today,” I managed. I felt my heart going a million miles an hour. The elevator ding. He grabbed my hand and kissed it. I felt my eyes widened. He smiled and left the elevator. I stood there stunned. I let my feet do the work and some how made it home.
