On a crisp Saturday morning, Bea was awakened by the bright music of her alarm. Her arm grabbed around for her phone to check the time. Why, oh why did I choose this song for my alarm? I really should change it one of these days, she thought as she finally silenced the alarm, cutting off the song. Well, at least now she was awake. She sat up and got out of her bed. Coming downstairs, she heard the telltale sounds of frying bacon and cracking eggs. Bea yawned and then said, "Are we having a good breakfast today?" Her mom, turning around to see Bea with her hair like a bird's nest, wearing a white shirt and plaid pajama shorts, said "I always make a good breakfast, but since today was a weekend, I decided to really put some effort into it!" Once Bea rounded the corner of the stairs, she saw that her mom had not been kidding. There was bacon, fried eggs, and the waffle maker was on, with a bowl of batter next to it. Bea was still half-asleep, so she picked up a plate and used a fork to spear two slices of bacon and an egg, depositing them on her plate. "Can you put a waffle on for me?" She asked as she sat down at the dinner table. Her brother, Fynn, was at the other end, tapping on his tablet and eating breakfast. Bea started eating, and then playfully snatched a piece of bacon from Fynn's plate. He looked up and blocked her fork with his own as Bea went for another. "Hey, don't steal my food! I need it!" He said as he started laughing. Bea lowered her fork and gave back the bacon. "I need it more, but fine, Mr. Greedypants." Fynn brightened up as his tablet chimed. "Oh yeah! Bea, I found a mountain trail that goes behind the falls! Since today is a weekend, can we go?" Bea squinted at the bright screen, but managed to make out the trail map. Her mouth half-full of waffle and syrup, she said "Sure, I guess. We haven't explored much here, so it'll be a good start! Just let me wake up first." Finishing her food and placing the plate in the sink, she said "I'm going to get dressed, and you should do the same if you want to get to the trail soon!" Fynn looked down at his ninja pajamas, and then proceeded to race Bea upstairs. "I won!" Fynn said as he touched the landing. Bea stepped over him and went to her room. "Well, maybe, but I bet I can get dressed faster than you! With that, it became a race. Bea chose a dark red shirt and black board shorts for her outfit, and as she went to the bathroom to wash her face, she heard the clanging noises of Fynn trying to go fast. She laughed to herself. She had already beaten him. Bea quickly brushed her teeth, washed her face, and attempted to make her hair look halfway decent. After she finished, she opened the door of Fynn's room to find him frantically trying to get his pants on. "You can calm down, silly, I've already won!" Fynn turned to look at her and feigned anger. "Noooo! That was my win!" Bea crossed the room and helped him slide his foot into the pants. After that, they both came crashing down the stairs. Bea's mom said "Bye!" as the two siblings fitted their shoes on - Bea made Fynn wear his rain boots, as she knew they were probably going to get wet. They ran out the door. After a short hike, both of them squishing in the mud near the falls and trying to spot frogs and geckos, they arrived at the falls. The mist from the water instantly made Bea and Fynn feel cooler as they edged closer. Fynn pointed out the small trail leading to the hidden spot, and they walked towards it. Once they were in the small nook carved out of the rocks, the falls were so loud they couldn't hear each other. Bea stuck a hand out into the falls, looking at the crystal clear water, made white with foam. She nudged Fynn to do the same, and he extended his hand. He giggled as the cool water flowed over his hand. Just then, Bea noticed a small opening in the rocks, enough for them to both squeeze through. She pointed at it. Both of them walked towards it as Fynn nudged for Bea to go first. She led the way, using her phone as a flashlight and keeping her hand on the rough rock face. Once she saw a bright slit of an opening, she slipped through and gasped. It was a hidden cavern. It was large and echoey as Bea called to Fynn to come see. He came through too, and he poked her. "Wow..." Gretal said in response. Fynn yelled, "ECHO!" as smaller Fynns seemed to repeat the phrase. A small stream bubbled through the rock, and Bea took off her boots and socks to place her feet inside. The rock underneath was smooth and cold, and she wiggled her toes, feeling the water rush over them. Fynn came over and did the same. "This place is really cool!" he said. After a while, Bea and Fynn used their socks to dry off their feet, and then slipped their boots back on and began the walk back to their house. As they were walking, Be asked, "Do you think we should tell Mom?" Fynn turned, and he smiled as he said, "No. This is our place."
