Azuro von Silverwing was once a prince of a mysterious kingdom which would awaken every nightfall. But this kingdom had a problem. Every morning, wave after wave of enemies- vultures and falcons- would attack the kingdom to no avail. And when night came, unsuspecting owls woke up to chaos. Their homes were destroyed, and many owls would cease to exist. But Azuro was arrogant and reckless. He took the commoners for granted. He didn't care about them enough, even though he fought and defeated the vultures and falcons. He still didn't care about the common owls enough. Not in his heart. But he was powerful, and he was loved by all of the owls, anyway, especially the common residents. He was a hero. He bragged about all of his victories, and even all the rich lords and ladies thought he bragged too much, but naturally, of course they admired and respected his battle skills. Azuro was formidable, feared and respected by all, until he was 19- and the storm came. One night, while the owl army was in battle, a strange bird wearing black armor whom appeared to be part vulture, falcon, AND owl appeared. Her piercing shriek called on the storm. All of the owls were frightened, and even Azuro was a little unnerved, but he would never admit such a thing. The storm appeared to be unnatural as it struck down a majority of the owls with lightning. The owls had to retreat, but Azuro kept fighting, kept pushing all the battling owls to their limits while the enemies attacked them relentlessly. And the owls didn't mind at all. They owed a lot to Azuro, and they would have still fought, anyway. The owls tried everything for their beloved prince, only to fight to no avail. They fell for their Prince. And finally, Azuro, with tears in his eyes, noticed how much they had loved him, how they would die for him. Satisfied, the worse-than-evil bird hybrid tried to flee, but noble Azuro, vengeful and crueler than ever.. disposed of her. I don't ever dare say how. Azuro fell the remaining enemies, too, avenging all his fallen comrades. But it was not enough to repay everything they had done for him. And it never would be. After the battle, even though the enemies were defeated at last, most of the owls were gone, too. And the remaining owls, who were once loyal to their prince.. hated him. They exiled him, but Azuro accepted it. He felt like he deserved to be exiled. With a bittersweet feeling in his heart, benevolent Azuro did one last thing for his kingdom. He spent all of his money on building new homes, castles, and food for the survivors, and, in front of them all, he split his Crown of Diamonds in two, and destroyed his throne. He granted the owls peace, at last, and he left in great sadness for the lost souls, but he was happy to have helped the living. And even though he left, Azuro was loved, and he was a hero once again. The other owls then remembered, just after he left, that the other owls didn't die because they were forced to fight- they died in honor, and they sacrificed themselves for Azuro, and for their kingdom. But Azuro, now 26, to this day, thinks everything is his fault. One day he'll know that's not true. Thank you for everything, Azuro. Until we meet again.. which will be very soon.
Thanks to @Bali-Myna for Wings of War, and thanks to me for Azuro, I suppose. Can't wait for that redraw! :D
