Chapter Three The very next morning, Fennec sat with Jensen and Luke Cole at the breakfast table but missed everything anybody said to him. The platinum-blonde girl was sitting across the hall, laughing with the black-haired girl known as Melody Riddle. After breakfast, Fennec trailed the pair as they headed to Potions class with Professor Snape. An older boy and girl both wearing Slytherin robes stopped the girls outside the door to the Potions classroom and talked to them animatedly for a few minutes, before disappearing down the hallway. Fennec walked past, trying to catch the blonde girl’s eye but she was deep in conversation with the other girl. He walked inside the classroom and sat down at a desk for two people, lugging his stuff into the desk as he did so. Professor Snape glowered at the door, before sweeping out and bringing the two girls in. Fennec sat up straighter and tried not to look hopeful as he realized there were only two seats left in the room and one was next to him. To his luck, the blonde girl sat down next to him and opened her Potions book. “Hey,” said Fennec awkwardly. “I’m uh… Fennec Smith. You are?” “Harmony,” said the blonde girl. Fennec was practically floating on a cloud of happiness. “Harmony’s a nice name. Fennec’s quite random.” Harmony opened her mouth to say something but Snape clapped his hands for attention. “Before we get started, there are a few rules in this class. No silly waving wands around, or incantations. For those of you that are actually interested in learning, I can teach you how to ensnare the mind and tell the future. I can teach you how to heal sickness and even put a stopper in death.” Harmony gasped next to Fennec. “Yes.” said Snape, looking around at all the students. “Think of that when you are expelled because you set the place on fire. You are wasting opportunities and MY time if you fail this class.” Harmony sank lower in her seat, and Fennec glanced at her. “Are you okay?” he mouthed, but she didn’t notice. Snape began to teach the class a simple potion called “Haze”. It made the drinker’s brain very foggy for about fifteen minutes. Someone tapped Fennec on the shoulder and passed him a note. It was folded over, but there was a name on the top. "Harmony" Curious, Fennec tapped Harmony on the shoulder and handed it to her. Harmony read the note quickly then quickly blushed bright red and glared across the room at Melody. //Why is she glaring?// Fennec thought. //What was in that note? Maybe I can swipe it.// The class continued, and when it finished, Fennec had just settled on something to say when Harmony said “See you Fennec!” and bolted out after Melody, who was exiting the classroom. Disappointed, Fennec gathered up his books to leave the classroom. He’d just have to think up something REALLY good to say to her tomorrow. At least they’d met, and he knew her name now… right? Their last class that evening was Astronomy, and Fennec had the best idea when he heard Professor Snape praising Harmony. Snape was being substitute as the normal teacher, Professor Sayers, wasn’t there yet. //Maybe I can ask her to help me with my homework!// Fennec planned. //Then perhaps I’ll get to spend some time with her.// He smiled to himself as he left the Astronomy Tower. //I’m going to make friends with that girl, and hopefully…// he watched her walk away laughing with the Slytherins. //Hopefully she’ll like me back//
