Introduction “Katherine, hurry up!” Narcissa called as they walked hurriedly through Diagon Alley. “We’ve got to get to Ollivanders!” Kate obediently rushed after her mother. “I wonder what type of wand I’ll get!” she said excitedly. “Maybe a-” “KATHERINE!” Narcissa yelled, and Kate quickened her pace. They finally reached Ollivanders, and Narcissa gave her daughter a push inside. “I’m going to get your schoolbooks.” She said and left. “Mr.… Ollivander?” Kate tried as she walked into the shop, which was dimly lit. rows and rows of narrow boxes lined the shelves. “Yes?” a dusty, white-haired man popped out from behind the shelves, adjusting his glasses. “Terribly sorry to disturb you,” said Kate politely, “but I need a wand.” The old man looked curiously at her, came out from behind the shelves and grasped her hand. “A Malfoy?” he asked, looking at her platinum-blonde hair and pale green eyes. “Yes sir,” said Kate. She felt a bit awkward. “Ahh… a wand?” “Of course, of course,” said the man, and disappeared behind the shelves. He returned carrying a thin box. “Here,” he thrust it at her. Kate opened it. Inside was a dark brown wand, with silver twisting around where her hand would hold it. She pulled it out and waved it slightly. Her fingers warmed and the wand did too, and just then Kate knew it was the right one. “Good, good.” said Ollivander, tapping it lightly. “Ash, bluebird feather, eleven inches, springy.” “Thanks so much!” said Kate, happy with her new wand. Ollivander frowned slightly but didn’t comment on whatever he was frowning about, took her money and waved her out of the shop. “You are an unusual Malfoy, Miss Malfoy.” He said by no way of explanation and slammed the door. Kate stared in surprise, before shrugging her shoulders and walking to Flourish and Blotts. Narcissa was just exiting. “Good.” Said Narcissa, spying Kate’s new wand. “What is it?” “Ash, bluebird feather, eleven inches.” Said Kate, fingering it lightly. “Come on then,” said Narcissa. She swept out, grasped Kate’s arm and apparated them to Malfoy Manor. Draco, Kate’s elder brother, was sitting on the couch and reading a book. “Whadja get?” he asked. Kate held up her wand. “Nifty,” said Draco. “Hogwarts Express tomorrow, don’t forget!” he yelled as she ran up the stairs. “I won’t!” yelled Kate. How could she forget the most important day of her life?
