Tw: forewarning, this project is abt K-pop, not the stuff I usually post! [inhale] so recently I’ve been listening and talking (mostly to myself lol) abt k-pop, and there are some things that need to stop being normalized! Also I do not mean ANY h@t3 whatsoever to the idols and groups, as most of their decisions are dictated by the big 4 companies. But anyways, the first thing I wanna bring up is debuting young minors! Like an example of this is Kaylee from the newer group, VCHA. She is 13, like what the HECK! It went from 20yr olds being the /youngest/ members of k-pop groups to being the oldest. I just think that minors should not be debuting at such a young age! Some other examples are all of NewJeans, NCT Dreams, and Niki of ENHYPEN being only 14 wen they debuted. Like c’mon, stop debuting minors!! Keep in mind that in Korea you are legally an adult at 19. (But also kaylee’s vocals for only being 13?!? Dang girl) Second, and this is more of a not-so-serious one, but the dang mini albums!! Like the poor blinks get one album with eight songs in it a year. I know that idols are very busy, and also have a life outside of the industry tho which is why this is less serious and more of a lighthearted opinion. On the subject of songs tho, songs are making less and less sense. Like the concepts are seeming more and more low-budget. Sticking with the VCHA example of the first bit of this project, just look at VCHA’s Y.O.Universe. First off, I want to state that I am not trying to pick on just VCHA for these things, it’s pretty common in 4th and 5th gen K-pop. And I love the song! It’s catchy, and has a good beat, /but/ the chorus seems just kinda low budget. And on the topic of Y.O.Universe, the put together an all English speaking group, and totally pass up the chance for someone to have a rap?!? Like what else would be the huge advantage to having an all English speaking group??? Also songs are getting shorter, little to no Korean in choruses to get more popular within the US, and more repetitive lyrics are getting on my nerves a tad but imma keep it short for this one, bye!
Just needed somewhere to rant abt K-pop without being annoying or cringe lol Also this is just my negative opinions on K-pop, I love K-pop as a whole and do not mean any hate to idols or groups
