What is this? Here's the answer: this is my process of making a cosplay of my long-time Oc Iris! This has been something I've wanted for forever, and I'm so excited that I'm old enough/skilled enough to finally make my childhood fantasies come true! So without further Ado: Meet Iris!!! I have stress levels for each step!!! +++++ = WAY STRESSFUL + = Not stressful at all/ fun! Process: - Concept sketches, basically just getting an Idea of what I want. None of this is concrete, as you'll see I'm not planning to make feetpaws. + (Fun sketches!) - Got the foam! It was 13 or so dollars from Walmart. ++++ (Had to explain to parents-) - Started the Bucket base. This is really easy, basically just take a piece of foam a bit taller than your head and then cut it to surround your head snugly, and glue! ++++(Starting and yeah) - Working out details and placement. This part was really just for fun at this point. + (Fun!) - Rounded off the head, and planned to a strip off from the bottom. (Too long) ++ (kinda hard, but fun) - Reversed it (Doodle was too confusing, made it hard to work) and cut out eyes, as well as the excess strip. + (Not much stress) - Added a snoot! This was a fun, but stressful part. I actually had a friend help me near the end! +++ (Worried I would mess up) - Added the first layer of eyebrows and the first two layers of cheek. ++ (Once again, may mess up, also still learning to use the foam) - Added ears! ++ (Hard to get even) - Side profile is rough, especially at this point. Don't worry though! - See I told you not to worry! Sculpted cheeks, added some chin stuff, made eyebrows smoother, and signature swoop! >:3 this was when I was started to think. "Hey, maybe I CAN do this!" + (I started to get into the groove here, enjoyed the snipping) - front view! She be looking a bit goofy - Added the top signature side floofs!!! +++ (Worried for unevenness again) - Added bottom floofs, and decided to trim both! (Too big, looked weird) Added some more cheek and eyebrow sculpting. ++ (Still concerned about messing up) - a few different veiws - Taping! I just used some regular masking tape, and stuck it straight on the foam. Next time I'll probably wrap the base in ceram-wrap before taping to make it easier to remove. Oh yeah, and I added a boopable nose! ++ (Fun, still stressful, worried I wasn't going to be able to peel it) - More tape + (knew It was good) - And more tape + (knew it was good) - WOAH THAT'S A LOT OF TAPE- Also eye reveal, not that big of a deal. Finished taping! + (Still cool) - Back reveal! - Patterning! I drew the different segments of fur, color and direction to later use as a pattern for the fur. + (Genuinely so fun, enjoyable part for sure) - Different patterning views - In the process of removing the tape! It's a stressful thing, trying to cut it off and not ruin the base or the pattern- PLEASE DON'T DO IT THE WAY I DID- And the sound is so bad- ;u; +++++ (Easily the most hard and stressful part. Thought I was going to ruin it, had to reglue some parts, and the sound that it made sometimes was pure agony.) - I stuck all of the tape on the door because I can - Got some eye mesh!!! (Got @ HL) - Le white fur! Got it from HL for $8 i think? It was a sale so yay! - Starting on the Handpaws! I drew this pattern and oh boy was it bad- + (I enjoyed starting the handpaws!) - Traced and corrected on the last scraps of foam I had - Made another, Cut them out. + (Very fun!) - I forgot to take photos, but I got a pair of Dollar tree gardening gloves and glued them onto the foam, back of the hand to the foam. + (Easy) - Done with first step of both, they're very flimsy and awkward at this point. - Yellow fur! (Online somewhere) - Green fur! (Online somewhere) - all three furs! - Forgot to mention, but I filled in the awkward gaps between my fingers in he handpaws, making them more usable and good looking. Still awkward as heck and mid quality, but they work. Anyways, this is the whole setup so far, paws and all! +++ (Burned myself and got a new glue gun, otherwise meh) - Tracing the tape patterns onto the fur! ++ (Hard keeping them in place, but fun!) - I have traced and cut out all of the white fur pieces for the head, need to upload photos! + (I loved cutting the fur with my razorblade!!!) - That's it for now!!! :D Just finished: Tracing and cutting all the fur Working on now: labeling the fur pieces and gluing tomorrow probably What I'm doing now-ish/what's coming up: Getting fur glued, finishing foam handpaws, tail template + sewing, Eyes. Need: glasses, blue hoodie, and belt if possible. Things I'm going to do differently next time: Start with a circular foam base, not bucket Get thicker foam Tape onto a seream-wrap covering instead of foam directly Be more clear w/ labeling PAY ATTENTION TO FUR DIRECTION Art, suit and character: yours truly!
