It bugged him every day, because he didn't really know his mother either. A great flood had come to the land of Willow's birth, and his mother, Jade, had to climb into the tallest branches of a strong, sturdy willow tree to survive. It was here where Willow was born, named after the tree in which he came into the world. He and his mother were safe in the tree. Though they were hungry, there was always a bit of water trickling down the tree trunk, and if they were lucky, an unexpecting bird came by and was sentenced to death by Jade's claws. But only a week after Willow's birth, the relatives were seperated by a burst of lighting that split the trunk in half. Willow tried to grab onto his mom, but his claws caught only her scarf, which survived the flood along with Willow. But his mother's body was found far from the forest by a pack of vultures, who tore Jade to shreds, without Willow's knowledge. He carries the tattered remains of his mother's scarf on his neck and paw, and though he will never truly know what became of Jade for as long as he shall live, Willow's mother's spirit watches over him, protecting him till he comes to join her in the stars.
